Did your family members become more vocally racist after Trump?

Really?

Ive seen a lot of white male victim mentality... For example “how dare you want a menorah at the (public) school holiday celebration?! This is an attack on MY culture and MY RELIGION! Stop the WAR on Christmas!”

I think any minority asserting their right to exist in this country is now considered a de facto “attack on white males” It’s a scary time.

Yes. I also see more racist posts on social media from non family members. Ironically most of them call themselves Christians and regular church goers. The racism seems contradictory to Christianity. But somehow they are aligned.

Yes, this has definitely ramped up too with my in-laws. This outrage that there's a war on Christmas, and that we can't say "Merry Christmas" anymore.

No racism but my Trump supporting ILs are always going off about "the gays" and how this "political correctness" is ruining the country. No wonder my teens limit contact with them. ??

PP who said "Not in my family..." here

Well, I never said CHRISTIAN "white males." Most males (who I know) that would be interested in a menorah, are white...

Interesting.

I've been told "Merry Christmas" exactly ONCE this year. It was when I was dropping off some gifts for a charity giving tree (similar format to Angel tree) and it was said to me by a Hispanic female.

And pp back again

I've never seen Christians object to Chanukah decorations during the holidays. The "objections" generally come from Athiests.

No, why would they?

Whenever I see these types of threads I always assume it's mostly a case of one person (always the DIL) defining something as racist that other people don't define as racism, and mainly because she wants to find more ways to justify not liking her in laws or relatives.

Too many judgmental and holier than thou people on DCUM for me to ever read these threads with any seriousness.

The left has made any form of criticism or comment that opposes Democratic ideology racist so everything but how incredibly wonderful! Is racist.
And the war on white Protestants is unending.

No, I just think it's interesting that all of a sudden, my in-laws are saying this stuff (that blacks have only themselves to blame for being poor, etc) RECENTLY. They've never brought up stuff like that in all the 20 years I've known them.

There's enough hate in this world to go around. Why should Muslims and immigrants and people of color and women be the sole beneficiaries? Let white men get some too.

This is because they accepted you as one of them.
As for other pp's pointing out African Americans and diaspora Africans in the U.S. they are right. There is a vast difference between their experiences. Imagine being kicked every time you try to get up? For 400 years? That mind set, that poverty is insane. My racist FIL works with African immigrants and likes their "attitude." Yes, he is racist and a Democrat that dislikes Trump. But, thinks and talks alike Trump. I am from Yugoslavia originally and as time passed by he feels comfortable to tell me that my people are butchers, that "we" meaning former Yugoslavs are but like Turks to Americans. Not sure what Turks did to him, but he clearly thinks them not white and primitive. I don't know if it is the political scene or if it is him getting older and saying all the crap he thinks out loud.
