| The online court records are public information. A person's private life can impact their reputation and ability to do a public job. |
It can, but mostly it will not. And sometimes the people looking are just being nosy and judgmental. |

I think that Montgomery County Police like to be dramatic. They arrested Einstein counselor Colin Black in the middle of the schoolday, even though his charges had nothing to do with students. |
Did Einstein send a letter? |
Look, we're allowed to be "nosy and judgmental" when choosing nannies/babysitters for our children. The teachers who influence our children and teens are just as important. MCPS has a history of not checking Maryland court records before hiring. If they had, Colin Black (Einstein) never would have been hired with a former charge of public urination and basically a history that adds up to alcoholism. If MCPS does not do this due diligence, parents have to. I think that teachers should be better paid. I also think that they should be role models for our children. Yes, that means keep your bikini pics to your own set of adult friends. Use your privacy settings. Stop friending my teen on Instagram. |

Man are these nosy Nancies going to feel badly when it turns out the teacher was "escorted" away because a relative had been injured or some other calamity had befallen him.
What some folks on DCUM seem to forget is that MCPS is not only a caregiver to our children - it is also an employer. As such, it has a duty to its employees not to spread their private business all over the school if they would prefer it not be spread. |
Yes they did: October 19, 2017 Dear Parents and Guardians: I am writing to inform you of the arrest of Mr. Colin Black, a counselor at Albert Einstein High School, on charges of second degree assault and second degree sexual offense. The alleged offenses did not occur on Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) property, are not related to any MCPS students, and do not involve any minors. MCPS has just learned of this investigation and is fully cooperating with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) and the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office on this matter. Mr. Black has been employed with MCPS since 2009. In addition to his role as a counselor, Mr. Black has previously served as a coach at Einstein and a substitute teacher with MCPS. These charges are deeply troubling. This type of behavior does not reflect the principles of MCPS or our community, and it will not be tolerated. As always, the safety and security of our students is our top priority. Sincerely, James G. Fernandez Principal |
| What's wrong with MCPS? |
Do you also check on your pediatrician? Your child’s coach or private music teacher? The clergy at your house of worship? The parents of your child’s friends? No one “friends” anyone on Instagram. |
Yes, right away. |
Okay, they "follow." |
No one gets escorted away by police because a relative is injured. Not unless the relative belongs to the mob. |
DP. The police came to get me at work when my ex was arrested. |
Did you leave in handcuffs? I don't know why police would embarrass you in this way. They could have had someone come to get you in plainclothes, or the County Resource officer (who is on campus at high schools) could have come talk to you. If the incident at Churchill is not related to accusations against the teacher, the principal could simply send an email that the teacher is dealing with a personal family matter. |
