Churchill science teacher escorted off campus today?

Glad teacher is back and they found nothing inappropriate happened. When Mr. Misenheimer was charged with having sex with a student, Dr. Benz defended him by saying they were only allegations.

I heard from a student in the class at the time that there was no kiss. This may be all rumor mill.

Or he was given a warning letter and sent back to class like Vigna.

How are you so sure that the kid you spoke with was in the class that it was reported to have occurred? The kiss could have been before school, during lunch, after school or another class period. BTW a teacher was a witness as well as other students.

She was given a mountain of evidence -- a girl accusing him of a sexual relationship, print outs from parents of chat room discussions, print outs from parents of AOL instant messenger scripts, items from his school office (pullout couch, candles, condoms) and she the newspaper published this:

Churchill Principal Joan C. Benz sent a letter home notifying parents of the arrest. The letter read, in part: "The allegations made public today are obviously troubling to all of us. I believe it is important to remember that these are allegations only at this time."

WOW just WOW, goes to the culture of that principal to just cover stuff up.

I think it's more just the culture of MCPS. We see it over and over at different schools. And, nothing seems to change.

I google Misenhiemers name too and was stunned after reading the articles that I have kids at Churchill and never heard about him, but I sure have heard about Blast. It is a really big deal for the kids.

Why didn't Churchill change the name of the show he created? It is kind of creepy that the just celebrated the 30th anniversary of a show created by him and that he produced for the first 10 years.

I think it's creepy of how Dr. Benz responded to the students who reported this sexual offender. The allegations proved to be true yet she was compelled to protect the abuser over the word of students.

Having gone to Churchill when this went down I can tell you this -- their was one side that knew exactly what was going on because they were victims or knew a victim and one side that just couldn't believe that this "amazing" teacher who did so much for the students could have possibly crossed the line.

As an 16 year old, it was hard to believe that this man who I adored could have possible had sex with a classmate of mine. As a 36 year old with my own children, I am sickened to think someone my age would even consider a relationship with a high school student.

A child predator is not the boogie man. The person normally is well liked and holds a position of trust with in the community. When this person gives gifts, special attention to an individual child, and begins having one on one time in a private capacity, then warning bells should start going off for parents. These are grooming patterns and predator uses to groom the victim. That's why there is a MCPS Employee Code of Conduct outlining for employees to not do these types of things.

Every parent should be well informed and talk with your children. Take the MCPS Volunteer Training. The link is on the MCPS Child Abuse and Neglect webpage. There are warning signs before sexual abuse takes place.

This school is a train wreck! If the principal is incapable of cleaning this and the other serious issues up, they need to replace them ASAP.

That principal was replaced. The new one hasn’t even been there a year!

Churchill has both a new principal and a new school director. The new director was an elementary school principal so fixing high school problems is not his strong suit. They both are nice but ineffective in implementing change or knowing what to do.

MCPS doesn't care about fixing Churchill because of the high test scores. It doesn't matter how many times Churchill hits the news for racist activities, how many times an ambulance is called for a drug overdose, or how many times inappropriate behavior of staff is reported. It's easier to ignore problems than fixing them.

This is outrageous.

Regardless, of what the county, the principal and other admin are probably taking these things seriously. It's a matter of decency. They must feel an obligation to the kids to do better.
