Is there or isn’t there a crisis on the border?

Not a crisis. U.S. Customs & Border Protection has a $14.7 billion budget and all the personnel and resources they need to deal with some poor people showing up at the border.

Article I read tonight in the NYT. Why has the border been busier the past month? Because reading this alarms me, a moderate Democrat. I see Trump using this to his benefit.

No need to be alarmed. A bunch of families fleeing violence is not a threat to you. Kim Jung Un continuing to develop a nuclear arsenal unchecked by Donald Trump is a much more serious threat.

What exactly did Barack and Joe do for EIGHT years?

North Korea’s nuclear program has made the greatest strides in history under Trump. And it’s contiuning while Trump feeds his base red meat about an unneeded wall.

That is such a load of crap. Obama did nothing. His stated strategy was "strategic patience." You are so off on this. It is not an easy thing to do--to simply convince another country to give up its arms. I am not saying Trump has succeed or is succeeding but he is trying. Obama literally did NOTHING.

They could've gotten even more if Trump had accepted the deal.

Bush didn't do that much, either. They used sanctions, and just ignored the tantrums. Trump, oth, gives into the tantrums and meets with Kim.

E-Verify was in Trumps budget for this year. And we know what happened there. But he wanted it.

Bush tried. Clinton tried. Obama did nothing. Read this timeline. The activities shift between 2008 and 2016. Before 2008 the US and UN and S Korea are active. That picks up again in 2017. But between 2008 and 2016 N Korea is practically unbridled. And Obama. Strategically Patient.

Anonymous wrote:Illegal immigration is more a result of people overstaying visas than illegally crossing the southern border. How many times does that have to be typed, a wall isn't going to curtail the issue.

That is why the left is opposed, not because it doesn't oppose illegal immigration but because the multi-billion dollar wall won't address or repair the issues taking place. It is a waste of money.

The goal is to make illegal immigrants feel unwelcome.

Honestly that needs to be coupled with mandatory e-verify and fining companies, including Trump's companies and GOP donors, that hire illegals.

+1.

So glad he's gooooone.

There is no political benefit to Trump to actually come up with a sensible solution to illegal immigration. It's far more useful to him to use simple-minded ideas like the wall to keep his base riled up.

Trump has that covered better than anyone.

We can agree that there is a humanitarian crisis at the border.

That doesn't make a wall the best solution.

The solutions are complex and based on a number of countries and agencies working together, which is why they are difficult to tweet out, let alone implement.

Thanks for the link, which shows that Obama's admin did try. Who was POTUS in 2009 again?

Those talks, however, broke down in 2009 following disagreements over verification and an internationally condemned North Korea rocket launch. Pyongyang has since stated that it would never return to the talks and is no longer bound by their agreements. The other five parties state that they remain committed to the talks, and have called for Pyongyang to recommit to its 2005 denuclearization pledge.

Here's another article:

https://www.cfr.org/timeline/north-korean-nuclear-negotiations
...In December, Obama administration officials hold their first bilateral meetings with their North Korean counterparts.

And if Obama did nothing, then why does Trump insist that Obama was on the brink of starting a war with NK?

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/16/us/politics/trump-obama-north-korea.html

So on one side of his mouth Trump says that Obama "cowered" before NK, but the other side of his mouth (or a$$) says Obama was about to start WWIII. Gosh.. so hard to know which hole to look at when he's talking.

Oh, and NK has restarted its nuke program even after meeting Trump. What exactly has Trump done in regards to NK except give into his demands of meeting with the POTUS?
