Is there or isn’t there a crisis on the border?

And those "meh" moderates who don't have an opinion.

This.

Democrats are denying it because should they admit this to be true, public opinion may sway in Trump's direction toward building a border barrier. They cannot have this.

The only crisis is the one Trump created by separating families and creating conditions of mass rape of girls and young women by men of all stripes.

Guatemalans would not leave their families behind as the Salvadorans do. Need to take care of children and women is recent.

I hope both parties will work together to stop the flow of immigration.

For all of his craziness, Trump at leasts messages he wants to stop illegal immigration. I feel like many progressives do not see it as a threat or otherwise harmful.

Democrats don't want to stop it. You can guarantee this will hurt them in 2020

Illegal immigration is more a result of people overstaying visas than illegally crossing the southern border. How many times does that have to be typed, a wall isn't going to curtail the issue.

That is why the left is opposed, not because it doesn't oppose illegal immigration but because the multi-billion dollar wall won't address or repair the issues taking place. It is a waste of money.

Only among some of the white Americans.

Corruption, increasing income disparities from automation, and environmental degradation are more urgent problems, don't you think?

I agree, especially when this image in LA represents those in our country who don't receive help:

Generalizations are your thing, I see.

As a moderate, I have an opinion. As a first gen, I believe in LEGAL immigration, too. But more importantly, we need to handle the issues WITHIN our borders first. If you have 5 kids of your own with chronic illnesses, you don't adopt 5 more.

sounds rough, eh? cruel? callous? Well, it's the truth that many don't want to hear. Strong nations can be humanitarian. I fail to see what we've done to address - in a constructive manner - poverty, gender inequity, racism, and prisoner reformation.

Not an accurate statement. Most recent data indicates that 42% of people here illegally overstayed their visas. That is not the majority.
Congress members who have taken the time to go to the southern border have seen the problem first hand. And, they see that people are coming across at unprotected areas on a continuous basis.

So the biggest issue for you is...adoption?

Your link doesn't work - new one https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/20/us/border-migrants.html

As is noted in the article, those on the border believe that the Trump administration is creating a crisis

Some immigrant advocates and elected officials were skeptical of the timing of the releases, suggesting they were part of a Trump administration effort to justify the president’s descriptions of a border in crisis and his declaration of a national emergency. Border Patrol officials deny such claims.

Representative Vicente Gonzalez, a Texas Democrat whose district includes McAllen, criticized the mass release of migrants “without processing, without proper plans for housing and with no course of reasonable action” and questioned the administration’s motives.

“President Trump, Secretary Nielsen, and the entire administration have been presented with the truth — there is no crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border,” he said in the statement. “Their response? Create one.”

And the Trump administration has exacerbated the problem by shutting down programs that helped manage asylum claims such as the Central American Minors program and the Family Case Management Program.

Ah, the thoughtless privilege of someone whose parents had the option to come here legally.
