Is Prince William jealous of Harry and Meghan's popularity?

William is said by some who know him to share one of his father’s less admirable traits—jealousy. Sources have told The Daily Beast that fear of provoking his jealousy is rumored to be one of the reasons why Kate has consistently sought to dampen her public profile and withdraw from public life wherever possible.

As the royal biographer Penny Junor told The Daily Beast recently: “I suspect Kate is holding back slightly to ensure she doesn’t overshadow her husband. That is what went so disastrously wrong for his parents.”

Or it could be that Kate is holding back because her husband's late mother had a HUGE public profile and died tragically because of the public's interest in her (the paparazzi wouldn't have been chasing her if she wasn't who she was). I'd imagine he would be concerned for his wife/the mother of his children, and not want to lose her also.

Diana died because the Royal Family pulled back everything. Charles was such an ass who hated how much she made him pay in the divorce settlement.

She went from a staff of 5 just for her to 1 person who was her cleaner/driver/butler all rolled into one. She lost all security outside of state functions in England as well as access to the pool of drivers & state protection. (You know the 4-6 person motorcycle team that follows the cars of every senior royal around). Anyway she died in Paris because she was being chauffeured by a private company without the institutional knowledge of the fleet that the British royal family uses and she didn't have a security team which could hold back the paparazzi from sticking cameras right up on her window.

That's also the reason she was dating a billionaire right up until her death. They could finance the same lifestyle she was used to with Charles. Didn't work out in enough time though.

The honeymoon phase and baby euphoria are a perfect storm of popularity and papparazzi delight. The novelty will wear off soon. They'll both go into hiding in a few months. Then the Royals will release an official photo of Baby Louis 1st bday/Family portrait, W+K will make some appearances, and the popularity pendulum will swing the other way.

Yep. Newlyweds and first pregnancies/babies are always hugely popular, whether it's a royal or a run-of-the-mill average person. I remember those days. You feel like a princess for the first years before the wedding, after the wedding, when the first baby comes along, and for a little while after that. Then you're just another couple. That's perfectly normal. Right now, Harry and Meghan are in their honeymoon phase, youthful and beautiful. In a few years, all of this will die down.

This reads like silly clickbait to me, and I am one of the posters that the loony DCUM Kate hordes have accused of being the anti-Kate troll. I highly doubt William is jealous. The popularity of H and M helps him than anything. It's good for the monarchy to have very popular royals who are raising interest in the monarchy.

Kate seems sweet but a doormat and terribly insecure.

She always seemed so comfortable when around Harry and positively glowed. Now that Meghan's here, Harry is off limits and she is back to square one stuck with her dour husband and worried about when he'll have another temper tantrum. Wills is ofcourse jealous of Harry and Meghan and I'm sure Kate witnesses a lot of meltdowns.

With that picture of Kate in the blue dress, Will was cropped out. In the original picture he was also belly laughing.

Look at pics #1, 3, 5. Wills is CLEARLY very angry and jealous of Harry in those pictures. My guess is he probably got mad at Kate for engaging.

Having a wife with the popularity of a rockstar helped Charles as future King...didn't stop him from being a jealous nut about it.

Eh, William is not Charles. It still seems like clickbait to me.

He seems more like Charles every day in personality. Charles was an awkward child who only managed to blossom into a somewhat self-assured man in his late 50s with his new wife constantly by his side.

William was an extraordinarily handsome teen but I have never heard anyone call him charismatic or charming or a gifted public official. I think he and Charles are just alike, especially as William grows older and more recalcitrant.

Nope. Look at Prince Edward,a his wife, and his kids. Many people don't even know that Charles has another brother beside Andrew. Barely anyone cared when he got married even though at the time he was 5th in line to the throne after Charles, Will, Harry, and Andrew. No one cared when he had kids. Most people can't even name his wife or point her out in a family picture of the Royal Family.
Harry is now 6th in line to the throne after Charles, Will, and William's three kids (now that girls can be in line). He and Megan are really popular. I think both will age very well, much more than William and Kate. This won't die down, especially if they have adorable looking kids.

Yes. It's very true. Sophie (Prince Edward's wife) should be a MUCH bigger name than she is. Especially since she held the stage solo for virtually a decade. Diana/Fergie were out of the picture with divorces in 1996. Camilla didn't come into the picture with marriage until 2005 and people still reviled her.

The Countess of Wessex was basically unchallenged from 1999 - 2011. The public fervor can't be bought or bribed or demanded. When they see the magic connection between a royal couple and the people, its just there. And it grows.

Easy to see the connection between Charles and William’s personalities vs Harry and Diana’s. He’s all in - affectionate with his loved spouse.

Kate is the people’s princess. Meghan is temporary. Doesn’t have class.

Oh that is so silly.

You can find other pictures from.these series that show just the opposite, as well as (gasp) Will laughing and being affectionate with his wife.

Digital cameras can take dozens of pictures in a few seconds, making it easy for any photographer to tell the story they want to create, just by picking a half a second moment out of a few second's worth of frames.

Anyone could be made to look like they are miserable and hate their spouse, even Meghan and Harry, just by picking the exact right frame.

For example, most of the pictures from this event look like the last 3 photos, not the first one:

These photos are just a second in time.

These threads make me feel ill.

Some people are so intensely scrutinizing the royal crowd. And they are probably American! Guess what....in England all of them are beloved by the majority. For a minority, royals won’t be loved whatever they do.

They have lots of support. But no wonder they keep very private.

I think that William and Kate are legitimately enjoying a bit of a breather from being in the spotlight.

Those two have been under intense public scrutiny for so long
to the point that every wisp of hair out of place has been noted.

I'm sure that it's nice to have the microscope eased up a tad. They should enjoy it while it lasts...
