Villanova vs. UVA

Anonymous
Bear in mind most of the internet cranks with snarky things to say about colleges have literally never been anywhere near the campus, let alone know anything about it. Just blind hatred for things outside of their scope. Dunning-Kruger, wallowing in their ignorance.

Private colleges are also out of the price range of average folks online, so it gets them especially rattled.

I'm sorry I don't mean to burst your bubble, but no one outside of the DC metro area is even thinking about UVA. People come from all over the world to go to Villanova...

Then why are the majority of their applicants from out of state?

If you are a person of color Villanova is clearly the best choice.

Villanova doesn't even release info about their international students, but it looks like they only have 335 international students.

The “Vs” are the only thing in common. One is a fantastic public school. The other is a mediocre private schoool.

USN&WR does rank by best public universities. UVA is no. 1, 2, or 3 depending on the year, behind Berkeley and tying with UCLA but always above Michigan. UMD ts will cite to the wrong USN&WR which combined private colleges with public universities. The better approach is to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. Here's the best public university list. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public

ACT 25- 75 per CDS
UVA- 29- 33
Villanova 30- 33

Both are great schools, with different strengths and different missions. Plenty of smart kids at each.

UVA's reported stats are higher. Bottom 25% of entering class this past fall (those that actually showed up, not the top scorers who got in but didn't how) is a 30; median 50% has a 32 and top median 25% has a 34 (or better). In terms of GPA bototm 25% had a 4.16, median 50% 4.33 and top a median 4.48. http://research.schev.edu//enrollment/B10_FreshmenProfile.asp

+ 1. UVA has students from 186 countries all over its campus.

Anonymous wrote:Villanova is certainly getting more selective. Here's the Class of 2022 First-Year Admitted Profile:
Acceptance Rate 28.9%
GPA (middle 50%): 4.10-4.48 on a weighted 4.0 scale
SAT (middle 50%): 1380-1490
ACT (middle 50%): 31-34

All schools are getting more selective.

Villanova is ranked nationally by USNWR - #49. UVA is #25.

UVA is ranked high[er] because of its research budget. Undergrad vs undergrad Villanova is a better experience, hence why they can charge $70,000 after rejecting over 70% of applicants.

That's a ridiculous statement. How did you cook that "undergrad vs undergrad" bit up?

Well, there may be some truth to it. If you rated schools on a 1 to 10 scale with 10 being the most undergraduate and teaching focused (Williams might be a 10 and Arizona State a 1), Villanova would probably be something like a 7 and UVA a 5.

It's an absurd statement, don't even try.

How so? It seems about rifght to me. Of course LACs will always have the advantage over big universities in their focus on undergraduate teaching.

UVA is too rednecky. Villanova wouldn't be my first choice for my kids, but you couldn't pay me to send my kids there.

And not a surprise that their grads' salaries are low.
