Someone posted earlier in the thread that the kids weren't "raised right." That's certainly possible, but the rich white kids from stable homes who had sex in the chapel at GC sorta counter the stereotype of only "bad kids who weren't raised right" having sex at school.

I hope she wasn't raped. That would be awful. She might have been, or maybe not. We don't know. Maybe she went to hook up with her boyfriend and he brought a friend along? Maybe she was raped, or maybe she consented and had second thoughts? Who knows.

Remember the rape near Sherwood that turned out to not actually be a rape? That was earlier this year. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I believe the rumor was it was a stranger, then a week or two later it turned out to be consensual sex with a guy she knew. Again, maybe I'm misremembering, but I'm pretty sure that's what happened. And everyone on DCUM went bananas when people commented that things weren't adding up. Same thing here perhaps since the boys stuck around campus instead of fleeing.

Read the last page. The Sherwood rape wasn't actually a rape. The girl told her parents it was initially, then an investigation determined they knew each other (no stranger was involved despite the fact she said it was a stranger). And charges weren't filed.

I'm not saying the Rockville student wasn't raped. Rather, I'm saying nobody has established that she was. The fact that the Latino boys are being held doesn't mean they are guilty. Here's how our justice system works: privileged white kids are questioned and released to their parents, while minorities are held as flight risks.

If the kids didn't flee the school, then folks should wonder why. Would you go to class and wait to be arrested if you just assaulted someone at school?

I had completely forgotten about that! I must have missed the update . One thing that bothers me about sexual assault stories is that when they turn out to be consensual there was nothing mentioned in the press about it or, it's a small blurb. For a week following that sure would rape story, everyone was talking about it but it die down and then I never saw an update .

No, what it was is, it wasn't a stranger, and the police didn't file charges. That's different from "it wasn't actually a rape" -- unless you think that rape by definition is only committed by strangers?

If you wonder why women are reluctant to report a rape, this is one reason. Because immediately everybody starts speculating about how maybe she's lying.

Our list serve said the news report said the two boys were enrolled in 9th grade and that they spoke no English.

Not sure if that was accurate - would an 18 year old boy be in 9th grade?

The news said she was a Freshman, it did not say the suspects were Freshman.
