vegetarian? sounds like your kids are malnourished . It's basically child abuse to with hold meat for children under 14.

Let me guess, you dropped out of school in the 2nd grade, right? I'm not even vegetarian and I still know how wrong you are. Although it is harder, you can still give an adult or a child a balanced diet including proteins on a vegetarian diet. There are plenty of other sources of protein including eggs, cheese, nuts (not for this family, but for others), quinoa, soy products (tofu or tempeh), beans. Even broccoli and spinach both have a modest amount of protein in them.

Never. My kids have never shown interest. Even if they did, I would make my own like a pp does.

Never and hopefully won't ever (DD is 3).

She regularly eats organic deli meat turkey (Applewood Farms, e.g.) and hormone-free cheese and crackers. On its surface, it's no different from a lunchable, but the nutritional content of these things is definitely different.

Never. I wouldn't dream of it, but they also would not be allowed at my child's school.

Is all sandwich meat this bad, or just the kind in Lunchables? How do you tell the difference?
What about cheese slices?

Never. It's not just the junky food, it's the packaging that then gets thrown out.

I'm also not a health nut, but I rarely buy these. I'd say I buy them once every 2 years. My kids used to beg for them. So I've caved a few times and bought them one, when they are on sale. I don't pack them in lunches, they can eat it immediately.

They are gross. They taste disgusting. Last time I bought them, one kid throughout the cheese and the other barely touched the meat.

If I'm going to give them crap, it should at least taste good; ex - Easy Mac, cold cereal, cheetos, hell even Raman.

Lunchables is the worst; deli meat is the best tasting. The prepacked sandwich meat depends on the brand.

For cheese I like the Sargento slices. I hate the Kraft singles, individually wrapped cheese.

My oldest is 13 and I think he's had them 3 or 4 times in his life. I'm not sure if my youngest (age 7) has ever had one?

+1. Teacher here. We get about one kid per year who brings a lunchable 3+ times/week. Always feel sorry for that kid; even if he/she wants the Lunchable the parents are doing a disservice.

Generally, you look at the ingredient list for the Lunchable meat and compare it with other deli meats. The longer list of ingredients has extra fillers because the meat isn't quality and the flavor has to be masked.

we never even thought about it until my DS' best friend in school seems to always have them. He's been constantly asking for them. I've tried giving him my own version, other foods (we usually buy lunch) but he keeps begging for lunchables. I've done it maybe or 4 times since January just to let him try it - but I don't think he likes it very much - just wants it because his best friend gets it.

What about the thin, underweight kids? My DCs are both underweight. They eat lunchables at times. What is the political objection?

Maybe they are underweight because you're feeding them wrong? Nutrient desert at your house?

Ugh! This area is so annoying. We eat all types of foods. DCs like blueberries, carrots, and red peppers. They also like cupcakes, ice cream, and cheetos. Some days we have grilled chicken, rice, and salad, some days we have pepperoni pizza. I can't wait to see these kids who've never been exposed to junk food at college. My parents and my generation grew up on hotdogs, twinkies, and Hi-C. We NEVER ate vegetables in my house when I was a kid. My parents and I are in great health. My grandmother just passed at 94 years old. Food is not medicine. It is food.

"Food is not medicine. It is food". This theory is scary. What we put into our bodies DOES matter and the reason why so many americans are on various medicines is bc of their diet and the damage it is/has caused on the body.
