They're no better or worse than a happy meal
A couple of times when the power was out and we just needed something very easily eatble from the grocery store.
never but we are not big meat eaters.
Maybe once every week or 2, and only the pizza ones (not because I care so deeply but because those are the only ones my kids will eat).
Not eating meat or nuts seems a bit difficult though. |

Not to be a total buzz kill but here is the article mentioned upthread about the NYTimes magazine article re: junk food. There is a section on lunchables. Basically it is crap marketed to moms who are looking for convenience. |
I would say maybe 6 times per year....car trips, or in unpleasant circumstances (mom sick and can't stomach the idea of cooking), etc. I realize they aren't healthy, but we supplement with fruit or veggies and the kids survive.
Field trip days.
Never. I mean, I feed my kids lunch meat and cheese and crackers, but I just buy better ones than the junk in Lunchables. I'm not even a food freak who bans processed foods and allows only organic and thinks juice is a treat, but I just don't see the point of eating inferior cheese, meat and crackers when you could eat GOOD cheese, meat and crackers.
I've never bought them. I do make my own version for kids lunches sometimes with whole wheat low salt crackers, cheese slices or cheese sticks, and some turkey deli meat if I have it.
My political objection to giving kids shit like that to eat is too strong at this point. It is disgusting what is going on with obesity and kids in this country and the good companies are to blame.
Never. I feel sad when I see kids eating stuff like that.
my 13 year old has probably had the pizza one 2 times ever and that was many years ago. I cant remember the circumstances, I think my husband bought them as a "treat". My 8 year old never. Basically we never buy them and my kids never ask for them. Also, we are pescatarian so it's not like there are a lot of options. Probably just the cheese pizza one I'm guessing.
What about the thin, underweight kids? My DCs are both underweight. They eat lunchables at times. What is the political objection? |
I have never bought a Lunchable, however, I have purchased a Foodle from Target on several occasions. It is a Mickey Mouse branded thing that comes with apple slices, cheese cubes, and pretzels (I think there is one that has grapes as well). These have been great for car trips!
