The only person accused here is Strauss-Kahn. The maid made the accusation, so there is no question of her innocence or guilt at this point. If you'd like to charge her with making a false accusation, please present your evidence to the appropriate authorities.

From what I read and heard on NPR, the story makes sense. Of course when you are dealing with immense wealth and power, conspiracy theories always appear. Strauss-Kahn has not been convicted of anything, but the accusations against him are very serious. And his history and reputation with respect to women give credence to his accuser's story. But only a jury can convict him, unless he decides to plead guilty.

I'm French, and am "glad" (obviously, sad for the victim) this case came to light and is treated in the US with US justice. The French media have always baulked at scrutinizing the powers that be in France when it comes to that kind of thing.

A set-up would not work as well without prior incidents of inappropriate conduct - so in that sense, whether it was a set-up or not, DSK still deserves what he got.

Yesterday on the Diane Rehm show (or was it the day before) I heard one of the reporter guests say that the alleged victim had worked in the hotel for a couple of years. That weighs against a conspiracy.
