Am I the only one that thinks that Strauss-Kahn was set up?

And then there is this. The first people to break the news were Sarkozy operatives. Did Dominique love women? Of course. He hung out with some of the most beautiful women in DC, you should have seen him at Milano, and that was the perfect way for that little Napoleon to bring him down. Also check out the victim. Seems pretty strange that she just happens to be a beautiful Afro-French in that hotel in his suite. Have you SEEN the typical hotel maid? Makes it more plausible that she was a DGSE operative.

And yet he had so little common sense as to have sex with an underling at the IMF.

I don't think we know the truth. Certainly he had many enemies - not just Sarkozy but people in the financial industry who didn't like what he was cooking. Look at what happened to Spitzer - and more importantly, how it happened.

On the other hand, he had a reputation for pursuing women, sometimes aggressively.

I guess only a jury can make the decision having heard all the evidence.

Ha ha! It's more appropriate at this point to compare it to Marion Barry. He was obviously set up, but then again, if he hadn't been into smoking crack and having extramarital in the first place it wouldn't have worked.

I don't believe for a second that he was set up.

And as for all maids being ugly .. WTF?! Yes, that was a beautiful picture of her and she's young, but there are plenty of young, attractive maids out there.

If he was set up, they will easily be able to find evidence, smear the girl's reputation, etc. We'll see.

This is stupid. This woman has worked in the Sofitel for years and is a well respected worker, not a plant. Plus, DSK's habits (prostitutes, forcing himself on women in his proximity etc.) are well-known. It's not being a ladies man.

I do suspect it was a set up, but not one originated by Sarkozy. It was more likely coming from the US (the Fed and/or Wall Street). Joseph Stiglitz wrote this month about the IMF's policy switch on capital controls and labor market under DSK's leadership and how he was "proving himself a sagacious leader of the IMF". Maybe too sagacious for powerful Americans to stand?

This was no set up. A maid at a hotel in Mexico has also come forward.

Link, please.

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if more stuff comes up like this. I agree, the whole 'ladies man' label is offensive to women ... his behavior (even without including this charge) has been aggressive.

He got caught. The police didn't even know who he was when they were initially pursuing him.

Why would we, Americans, want to set him up? Most Americans didn't know who he was prior to the arrest. Maybe you think the Chinese were setting him up in the hopes of wrestling control of the IMF from Europe? Do you think it was Sarkozy? Maybe it's a plot to give Merkel a stroke when the Chinese assume control of the IMF?

You can't be that dumb. Of course the police knew, the hotel knew. How do you think he got an upgrade to the penthouse room? Because he's a VIP guest, one who had stayed at least a handful of times in the same hotel over a year. Upon checking in, his picture was posted internally so hotel staff could dispense special treatment. So maybe you didn't know who he was, but any American with half a brain in the DC or NYC scene was very familiar with him and his importance.

The hotel knew who he was. He has a security detail. But I'm sure the maid didn't know who he was. Not everyone knows or cares about the IMF.

he also tried to rape a 21 year old years ago--the daughter of another prominent socialist party member. she contacted lawyers years ago.

more of this will come out.

the truth will out.

this is not behaving "aggressively"--this is rape.

I think it's a set up too. He's definitely a "ladies man" (I hate that expression too) & he probably did hit on all of these women coming forward and likely initiated any sexual contact. That said, I think that this particular case sounds very, very fishy.

He criticized US policy often & he was a favorite to beat Sarkozy. Plenty of reasons to set him up. I agree that he's a total scum bag and never would have been in this position had he been faithful to his wife but I also don't think he attempted to rape this maid.

I might change my mind once the trial goes on and facts are revealed but at this moment I think it's a set up.
