Dream on. |
Yes, all of those taxpayers have watched their funds, for decades, go on to serve other parts of the county. Shameful. |
Nec should have had their own magnet and left Blair to the DCC only. There is also a huge assumption all smart kids want Blair and they don’t. Mine did not like the courses. New magnets may not dumb things down as lots of smart kids as not accepted due to space. You are better off at a non w school or Blair for college acceptances as less competition. |
Woodward rolled in at $220 million, isn't that correct? That is crazy money. Is that what DC is paying for its schools? |
| Does anyone think there's a chance that the Viers Mill area will gentrify over time because of being zoned to Woodward? Maybe not everyone is eyeballing FARMS rates so closely, and the catch of being zoned to a brand new high school located in North Bethesda with plenty of students coming from Bethesda will fuel the perception that Woodward is just another "W" school, and perhaps real estate in the Viers Mill area will start to reflect that. I heard that the areas of Silver Spring zoned to BCC gentrified a lot because they are zoned to BCC, so I'm wondering if we'll see something similar happen to real estate in DCC areas moving to Woodward. |
It’s already happened. Look at the difference between Randolph Hills and Holiday Park just based on “North Bethesda” versus a Silver Spring mailing address. We’ve been in the VM boundary for over 10 years and the neighborhoods have changed a lot. Original owners die and get replaced by DINKs or young couples who move once they have kids for bigger houses if they stay int eh area or to a different area completely for a lower cost of living. |
Schools districts in DC and Northern Virginia tend to spend much more money on school design and architecture. Arlington even hired an innovative European architecture firm for one school. MCPS doesn't spend nearly as much money on their facilities. Howard County spends even less. |
| Complaining about shrubs and architecture now are we? Gimme a fackin break dscum |
It slowly is due to more affordable housing. |
| I haven’t been following this closely since my DD graduated a few years ago. I’m just a few blocks between the WJ and Einstein dividing line and know nothing is changing with my zoning. I just tried to find a map of the boundaries for Woodward out of curiosity, but couldn’t find a final one. Can someone please provide a link? |
The last two pages have maps of the approved boundaries: https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/DSFTGX775BAD/$file/Apprv%20Rec%20Reopen%20Charles%20W%20Woodward%20Expansion%20Northwood.pdf |
Thanks. |
"Near term, there will be struggles. For some reason, they decided to give Woodward the worst magnet combo a school can get." This right here, what a worthless magnet program - I'm sure it's on purpose as to not have another decent "W" school in an already established neighborhood. |
| The fear of change here is bananas. It’s not that big of a deal to send our kids to a brand new high school right down the road. I went to 3 different high schools and learned a ton about myself and how to relate to others and how I wanted to show up in the world. Change is not bad - it drives growth. Shielding children from the chance for growth to protect their mental health actually does the opposite - it teaches them you don’t believe in their ability to do hard things. Also, most schools in WV have a whole different vibe than moving between two MCPS schools a mile apart. |
