Woodward High School

I'd say give it a year or two to see what the admin in place is like before immediately jumping to pull your kids.

Who knows, maybe it ends up being another "W" school.

I actually think the success of Woodward depends less on the WJ kids moving there but on whether or not parents rezoned to Woodward from the DCC who currently send their kids to private schools will start sending their kids to Woodward or not. The FARMS rate could be lower than what MCPS projected it to be if more parents from that area use Woodward instead of private school.

Parents will choose private regardless and the DCC commute will be a nightmare. Lots of Northwood kids transfered to other DCC schools because of it.

Both WJ and Woodward will be impacted. WJ is going to lose staff with a reduced population and course options.

Woodward is very nice inside despite looking like a prison. We are zoned there and not planning to change that

This is my personal choice due to my very sensitive kid whose friends are staying at WJ and she supposed to leave for Woodward. Yes, I will loose money, yes it sucks. But I prioritize my kid mental health and comfort

No judgement at all, but how do you expect your daughter to handle going to college and the real world if your response to her being redistricted is selling your house to “protect her mental health”?

I can't judge. I did the same thing. I quit my job and sold my house in West Virginia to move back to Gaithersburg so my daughter could go to HS at Gaithersburg HS because her mental health wasn't great out there. Best decision I ever made. Kid is now thriving at Gaithersburg and most of the issues with mental health have been corrected. Still have some challenges but we're talking about a teenage girl.

I mean, there’s a pretty big difference between being 14 and being 18? The kids who will be switching schools are in 8th grade this year.

I'm hoping for the best and no plans to move yet... but I have a few years left to decide

She will be 18 or 19 for college, which is completely different. She will be more mature. She is 14 now and more vulnerable, and she needs her friends to be with her now. It is a big deal for teenager.
I also have another kid who will be separated from elementary school friends because she will need to go Tilden instead of NBMS. We all want best for our kids.

I switched schools for HS and I was completely fine. I think your kids will be fine either way. Unfortunately boundary changes are necessary to address massive overcrowding at multiple high schools.

I purposely chose to not have my kids raised in that "world".

But everyone's real world is different.

There are people that can live their entire lives in a bubble. Growing up in a country club lifestyle and living that way all through the life.

These people also tend to go to very prestigious/exclusive colleges and for their careers work surrounded by similar people.

So while it may not be your world, it's their "real world".

Like I said, I purposely didn't want my kids to live in that type of world. But no one should be judging on who's world is the real or right one.

And hey for all of the virtue signalling from Dr. Taylor and Dr. Starr, just wanted to point out that they still chose to live in the richest part of the county. If diversity and equity was such a big deal to them, shouldn't they make sure that their families live in the "real world" too?

The NB-Woodward path is particularly brutal for the current 6th-8th graders. They will never go to Tilden but only like 10 kids in each grade at NBMS will go to Woodward and everyone else will go to WJ. At least the current 8th graders get 1 year at WJ to meet a lot of other kids moving to Woodward.

Lady your house isn't being reassigned to Woodward for equity. It's because WJ and multiple nearby high schools are wildly overcrowded

I actually wasn't referring to the topic of this thread. But more so all of the other programs/initiatives that they expressed support for. Such as the regional models or yes, if they're doing anything to try to balance out demographics/performance at schools. Maybe not necessarily at Woodward but at other schools/programs.

It doesn't belong to WJ parents btw. It was built by MCPS using taxpayer dollars.
