So can Emory mom/troll stop spreading misinformation?

PP clearly said Emory received 43k apps this year, not sure how true that is, but if it is then there's no question Emory is harder to get into.

This! I dont understand why pp keeps bringing up last years numbers. Last year Emory College was more selective, this year Emory College and Oxford Collegebwill be more selective.

How many emory posts do
You do?

The thread is about Emory is it not?

Yeah, nailed it. You need to stop your Emory over the top posts because it turns people off from everything you say.

Other than being D3 and in the same athletic conference, I don’t get why the two are compared to each other so often.

My kid interested in Emory was interested in Vandy, UGA (as quasi-safety), and Duke. I would imagine a WashU kid would be interested in Chicago, Northwestern and Michigan…maybe CMU as well.

Honestly, St Louis is a big hurdle to overcome if you want an interesting city experience.

Both washu and emory undergrad b-school programs are very well regarded. A key difference is in the timing of the business curriculum. At emory, you generally don't apply to guizuetta until end of sophomore year and take biz courses Jr'/Sr years. At washu, you apply directly to olin and can start biz classes right away- and they have very interesting biz course/consulting type seminar freshman year which I think is an advantage. I have an older kid who went to emory/business (doing very well profressionally but this kind of kid would be successful no matter where they went to school- crazy smart/driven, competitive etc). My other kid is at penn/wharton which also begins business courses freshman year. Given that the recruiting timeline for finance jobs is now so early, it's good to get some exposure to finance/acctg topics before recruiting starts. That being said, these are all great schools with a multitude of opportunities for kids.

Breath of fresh air of a post in a thread that got almost derailed by some troll. Thank you.

Washu seems more prestigious to WASPs, while Emory everyone else. With that said they're both great schools but I agree that Emory( and Atlanta) is having a resurgence.

There is a large contingent of Jewish kids at both schools, so it's a wash. Emory has more Asians, though. Anyhow, that's not everyone else.

Black and Latinos would choose Emory as well.

I've always thought WashU to be a more well-rounded school, while Emory is more spiky in pre-med and pre-health. I'm sure Emory has other amazing programs but just my 2 cents.

Sorry to burst your bubble. The number of applications is not a zero-sum game. Each kid sending in an average of 12 apps last year and 13 apps this year will inflate the number of applications to most schools. Nothing to do with someone's gain is someone else's loss. Hope your Emory kid isn't as naïve as you are.

One clarification re Emory - a lot of kids (mine included) are able to apply to the Emory business school at the end of Freshman year and therefore can take 3 years of business classes (must be on main campus, not Oxford). It’s not that hard to get the prereqs done by then.

Statistically, an increase in the number of schools each student is applying to will affect all schools equally, especially schools as similarly ranked as Washu and Emory. Even schools like Tufts and BC had fairly large increases this year. Its a preference issue that WashU is dealing with not a systemic one.
