| Any Virginia resident who chooses either over UVA has lost their marbles unless they grow money on trees -- in which case it doesn't matter where they go to college at all. |
Agreed. |
Not everyone is lucky enough to live in VA. |
Not always. A family making 150k would pay less to go to either (only 25k) than to UVA. |
This recent analysis ranks WashU as the 25th most selective school nationally and Emory as the 35th most selective school nationally: https://wallethub.com/edu/e/college-rankings/40750 |
correct |
Families making under 100k at UVA have tuition covered. |
| Personally I think Wash U is more highly regarded, but they are so close that it's really more what the kid prefers. STL vs ATL? Midwest vs South? vibe of school? Go visit. |
And just to be clear that’s most families. The PP is in such a bubble that she thinks her experience as a rich Virginian who hasn’t budgeted to allow her kid to have choices is the only one. |
Which means exactly nothing. Splitting hairs. |
LOL I'm a rich Virginian not because I haven't budgeted but because I'm not stupid when it comes to spending money. Both Wash U and Emory -- Wash U in particular -- have among the wealthiest student bodies in the country. |
Who cares? Other things being equal, I’d rather go to a college full of rich people that I can actually afford than a college full of middle class people that breaks the bank. |

WashU received 32k applications and Emory 43k this year so it seems Emory is at least more popular. Emory has more students submit test scores as well so I dont see how WashU would be more highly regarded.
To pp Emory College acceptance rate is 10%, Emory+Oxford is 14ish percent. However this year Emory college will likely be 7-8% and Emory+Oxford 10-11% so both either way Emory is more selective than WashU. Add the fact WashU had a decline innapps this year. |
