What a great post. I was just about to post this link that has one of the black actors that acts beside Davidson in I Swear. Now I think he should've been harder on BAFTA but that was pretty much already covered enough here https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/s/4844QcMxqU |
No coprolalia is not the same as that racist lady saying it. You're just ragebaiting |
No PP, we don’t pretend that Davidison didn’t actually say the N word. And his “apology” is out and he didn’t address what he said, who he said it to, and the impact of that word. |

Something doesn’t have to intentional for you to still be responsible.
DH’s uncle was killed by a woman who had a seizure while driving. She didn’t intend to kill him. She didn’t intend to have a seizure. However, she had a prior accident due to a seizure the year before and during the investigation, admitted that she had some warnings and could have pulled over, but didn’t. She hit DH’s uncle, who then hit his head on the curb and died. |
| Impact matters regardless of intent. |
| Really good points that apology didn’t address impact of word, historical significance, etc. and that impact matters regardless of intent. |

What I don’t understand is all these Americans getting their knickers in a twist about this. How many of you were following the BAFTAs before this? Yet somehow this deeply affects you?
People will seize any opportunity to express their performative outrage, no matter how complex and nuanced the issue actually is… |
Racism affects everyone. |
Did the man use the n-word other times of only when he sees black people? It's a little bit like that HGTV host who dropped the n-word as an expletive. I know she's not disabled with Tourrettes but the fact that it's in one's vocabulary How does Tourrettes work, say you hear French around but you don't speak it, if you are disabled will you involuntarily say French things? |
You misunderstand Tourette’s. They aren’t racist, they have: While only about 10–15% of people with Tourette’s experience coprolalia, it is a complex vocal tic—an involuntary outburst of obscene, taboo, or derogatory remarks. Its the feature not the bug. |
|
I understand about Tourette’s, but I also believe that an individual’s rights end where someone else’s begins.
The winners on stage had the right to enjoy their moment without having offensive things yelled at them, for whatever reason and no matter if it was racial slurs or sexual comments or just something gross and inappropriate. I support the rights of disabled people to be included in public, but it’s very entitled to think your rights are more important than those of others. |
So maybe this was a stunt. I'm on Team Black People. And I am disabled. |
Like you’re doing right now? |
Don't tell other people how to speak. It's rude. Please and thank you. |
