Very well said. Another: Plus One. |
The win-win was very simple, and it’s possibly too late. All that was needed was for Mr Davidson or his team to quickly apologize for the impact of his behavior and to discuss plans for handling future issues in similar circumstances “Although my verbal tics are not behaviors that I can control, I apologize for the pain that they have caused three people who I respect, as well as the general public who heard my words. In the future, I will make every effort to be certain that I am not seated near microphones to minimize exposure to my vocal tics. Again, I am deeply sorry for the pain that my words have caused.” That’s it. Mr Davidson has said that he saw the faces of the two presenters change in response to his vocal tics, and realized that he had been heard. Had he apologized as soon as he could, this would be non-story. Instead, he left the room, then went to the dinner: subjecting at least one more person to his very focused, racist tic. Pretty much every toddler knows that when you hurt someone, you “Say Sorry”. Mr Davidson knows this and has done this before. Why did he choose not to in this instance? And why was it broadcast when there was, supposedly, a two hour delay? |
That’s a no win situation for him. |
I’m betting this movie and actor won’t be in Oscar contention precisely because the Academy won’t want to deal with this mess. |
+1 It's amazing how simple this could have been. |
That’s actually not how it works in schools when special needs are involved. |
Actually, not all special needs schools and programs are the same. Really. Yes, I have decades of experience that support my comments. In any event, a professional awards program is not — and is not trying to replicate— “schools where special needs are involved.” While mainstream environments should be supportive, and provide accommodations, people with disabilities who want to thrive in mainstream environments need to prioritize developing skills that will enhance their success and safety in these environments. Again, Mr Davidson is fully capable of apologizing for the impacts of his behavior. In this instance, he has chosen not to. That stands out. |
That word is horrible and needs to be removed from our lexicon by everyone. It shouldn’t be used by anyone - period. |

“Davie confirmed the second instance of the racial slur being shouted occurred within 10 minutes of the first, when Sinners star Wunmi Wosaku was accepting the best supporting actress prize.
"In that instance, the edit team did hear the racial slur on the feed and removed it immediately from the version of the ceremony that would be broadcast later that evening," Davie said.” https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c93we0076rlo |
