POTUS calls U.S Olympic skier "a real Loser"

President Obama (remaining completely silent on that racist post), “To all the athletes representing Team USA: I’m so proud of you. Your talent and perseverance have brought you to this moment, and Michelle and I will be joining Americans from across the country cheering you on.”

See the difference?

But there is a significant segment of MAGA who will see this type of comment as simp or beta, or whatever way they denigrate dignity and grace.

Why can't the skier speak about his views? Moreover, why is a skier subject to more scrutiny than the President? Perhaps the person who shouldn't have said anything is Trump.

They are getting asked by the press and others in every conversation. If they don't say they are against what is happening, they imply they are for it. I 100% support these statements.

Being called a "loser" by Trump is a badge of honor.

Are you saying that if someone doesn’t vocally oppose the actions of others, they support those actions? Just want to make sure we understand The Rules.

Let me break it down for you like you are 5. These athletes are from a country that is not just trampling on its Constitution by ignoring due process, not just abusing the human rights of immigrants with prolonged detentions without enough food or medical care, not just gassing it's own citizens, not just shooting its own citizens in the face and in the back and then refusing to prosecute the perpetrators, not just posting the most stereotypical racist memes and refusing to apologize -- not just all THAT, but also invading other countries and generally bullying, disrespecting, and giving the middle finger to the world.

These athletes are wearing Team USA uniforms and REPRESENT the United States. When people see their uniform, they think ICE! They think human rights abuses in 21st century USA! Everywhere they go, these athletes are being asked repeatedly how they feel about it.

If they don't separate themselves from it, OF COURSE they are associated with it. How could they not be?!

The same is true of every American in the US, by the way. If you are not denouncing the atrocities, you are a collaborator. The History books will be relentless and judge you as one of "Hitler's willing executioners."

A country doesn't exist without borders

We all know that and agree. It's telling that you choose to say that and not denounce the violations of the Constitution or the horrific abuses that make us deeply ashamed.

So not denouncing = agreement?

If you are asked about your thoughts about representing America today are you going to ignore the Activities of ICE? That does imply that you don't think the current actions of ICE are worthy of your attention. I absolutely think it is important to understand what people support current ICE actions and tactics and what people oppose.

The epstein files/pedo protection, ice concentrating people in camps, trump posting racist memes, etc etc are the elephants in the room, so to speak. The skier affirmed that none of this is normal. I'm ok with that.

Now is the time to speak up!

Many other US olympians are speaking up in more muted ways. The US is not used to being hated on the world stage like this so I’m sure it’s a weird feeling for the US olympians. They don’t want to act like they support what has gone on for the past year because nobody in their right mind does.

I'm no fan of Trump and the corruption he enables, especially of the little Republican princelings (see, e.g., crytpo pump-and-dump scams they run), but Trump's right on this. Olympic athletes who dive into politics are engaging in divisive behavior. It's their right, but complaining about the backlash is childish.

In particular, the skiing community has exposed the pernicious effects of limousine liberalism. Lindsay Vonn just destroyed her leg because she was too vain to retire when her body failed. Mikaela Shiffrin made naive comments about a life from which she has been completely insulated. And now this clown offers useless commentary because he can ski well.

It's not hard: Just wave the flag, smile, and compete. No one wants to hear your half-baked thoughts on anything.

No one wants our Olympic athletes to feel proud about some of the un american bull crap going on right now here and abroad. It is so atrocious the athletes are forced into the position of making clear that the corruption does represent them or most of the USA.

He was literally responding to a question from a reporter about the current political situation in the US. Obviously some people do want to hear his thoughts because they asked him! Ok the other hand, no one asked you what you think so you should probably stay quiet

They're not forced to do anything. They choose to share their stupid thoughts, and they should be ridiculed accordingly.

Reporters are known liars. Every single time I've personally witnessed events that have been reported broadly, the reporters flat out lied. Anyone naive enough to trust a reporter should be disenfranchised.

What are you smoking? What did the reporter lie about? The question and answer were at a recorded press conference. You sound nuts.

I don't know what that reporter has lied about, but reporters are notoriously dishonest. Reporters are so bad they've lied about Trump. Remember when they falsely reported that Trump took a certain bust out of the Oval Office? Remember when the WaPo reporter got in trouble for posting out-of-context pictures of a Trump rally and lying about it? Heck, do you remember when the NYT got busted for reporting that Trump had hidden an EPA report when the draft of that same report was already publicly available? If you can't remember many examples of reporters lying (GM fuel tanks, if you're older), then you're not committed to the truth.

Yes, Trump lies. That doesn't relieve reporters of their lies. They're all bad.
