Olympic athletes who dive into politics are engaging in divisive behavior. It's their right, but complaining about the backlash is childish.

In particular, the skiing community has exposed the pernicious effects of limousine liberalism. Lindsay Vonn just destroyed her leg because she was too vain to retire when her body failed. Mikaela Shiffrin made naive comments about a life from which she has been completely insulated. And now this clown offers useless commentary because he can ski well.

It's not hard: Just wave the flag, smile, and compete. No one wants to hear your half-baked thoughts on anything.

That ship has sailed. Get over it.

Most Americans would prefer to see American Olympic champions stand up, when asked, against the current abuse of American values perpetrated by the current government. I don't want to see our Olympians just stupidly smile and wave the flag as if they are ignorant fools when asked this question.

Citation to this statistic about most Americans? Seems like most Americans just want to watch their performance, not hear their political opinions.

Also. Now we all now who Hess is. We already know that Trump is a sensitive snowflake loser.

Hess's response to Trump was that he loves his country but feels that there's room for improvement...and that he values the freedom to say so.

and I'm sure that if you had asked a MAGA olympian the same question during Biden's administration, they would've said the same - "I don't agree with everything that's going on in this country, 'but all the things that I believe are good about the U.S. I just think if it aligns with my moral values, I feel like I’m representing it.'"

Olympians are also US citizens, and they have every right to free speech. He didn't offer his opinion off the cuff; he was asked his opinion, and he shared it.

Don't ask; don't tell.

tell that to Trump and his "Peace Prize" from FIFA.

Fox News article on this latest statement:

https://www.foxnews.com/sports/american-olympic-skier-hunter-hess-cannot-wait-represent-team-usa-after-trump-backlash

The article itself sticks to the facts. But the link to it on Fox's homepage says "American skier walks back 'mixed emotions' comment after Trump calls him 'real loser'." I wouldn't call what he did walking back his comment.

Seriously. He needs to make everything about him. He needs to just shut up and do his job.

No, he needs to just shut up and eat more cheeseburgers.

Why does it seem this way to you?

How many Americans have you talked to?

Didn’t he get five deferments from serving in Vietnam due to bone spurs? And there are lots of pictures of him looking healthy and skiing during that period where many other young men were drafted?

Do Americans watch sports primarily for the athletes’ political commentary? Is that why they train so hard? To get a chance to spout their political views?

Kind of like most Americans just want to enjoy the Super Bowl and keep politics out of it. Can you imagine politicizing the Super Bowl, or how about politicizing a halftime show??? Who would ever do that?!?!

So, you are in the "shut up and dribble" camp...except MAGA are the ones who laud any athlete or celebrity who bends the knee. Y'all could just ignore anyone who doesn't spout your party line. You have a choice.

FYI, the guy was asked how he is feeling and he answered the question, he told the truth. Can you imagine any other world leader posting something anywhere near this slop? Trump is a global embarrassment

He was literally responding to a question from a reporter about the current political situation in the US. Obviously some people do want to hear his thoughts because they asked him! Ok the other hand, no one asked you what you think so you should probably stay quiet

Reporters are known liars. Every single time I've personally witnessed events that have been reported broadly, the reporters flat out lied. Anyone naive enough to trust a reporter should be disenfranchised.

What are you smoking? What did the reporter lie about? The question and answer were at a recorded press conference. You sound nuts.

I don't know what that reporter has lied about, but reporters are notoriously dishonest. Reporters are so bad they've lied about Trump. Remember when they falsely reported that Trump took a certain bust out of the Oval Office? Remember when the WaPo reporter got in trouble for posting out-of-context pictures of a Trump rally and lying about it? Heck, do you remember when the NYT got busted for reporting that Trump had hidden an EPA report when the draft of that same report was already publicly available? If you can't remember many examples of reporters lying (GM fuel tanks, if you're older), then you're not committed to the truth.

Yes, Trump lies. That doesn't relieve reporters of their lies. They're all bad.

Put down the pipe PP. you are so far off base and off topic, you sound a real fruitcake.
