After a casual glance at that Instagram page, I’m not seeing what you’re seeing at all. Are you sure you weren’t looking at UVA commits? |
There are multiple accounts but williamandmary2030_ is the only active one. |
Ah, I was looking at wm2030class. |
| My kid was accepted EA at UVA (from FCPS) but hasn't received a cypher card from W&M. Have any in NoVA received one this admissions cycle? |
It doesn't sound like anything has come out yet. However most applicants don't receive one, so it could just be nobody has posted about one yet. |
| My kid is a 1693 semifinalist and hasn't gotten a cypher, fwiw. |
Is that the real page? Many of the posts are from students who say they are 100% committed to another school. Or that they are majoring in a department W&M doesn't have, like nursing, criminal justice, or game design. The whole page looks very fake to me. |
There is no "real page". Almost all of the "$school_name class of 2030" (or whatever permutation of <school_name> and <graduation_year> and maybe the word "official" somewhere in there) Instagram accounts are hosted by for-profit companies, spoofed to look like they're some sort of official page from the university. This is one reason many students don't post to these accounts. |
Are you sure you're on the right account? https://www.instagram.com/williamandmary2030_/ I'm not seeing any people who are committed to different schools/majoring in stuff that doesn't exist. They also tag the person in each post and all of them have W&M in their bios and are clearly real accounts. |
| There are a few fake/no longer used class of 2030 accounts for W&M but this one is the most legitimate/used from what I've seen. |
None of the accounts are officially affiliated with the university. |
This made me laugh. I went to WM and was in a sorority. Most of us thought our president was irritating, but she got elected because no one else wanted to deal with the administrative parts. |
Well yes, but this is clearly the account that students are using |
W&M has a range of students, from nerdy to preppy. The nerdy types may be less likely to post their bios on social media so that page likely attracts more of the outgoing students. You shouldn’t rely on Instagram to demonstrate the entire universe of college student body. |
PP: The point I was making is that it seemed like there was a drastic decrease in "nerdy" people posting on the acct this year. Why would those people suddenly be less likely? |
