| Have W&M cypher postcards gone out yet? Has anyone’s kid in the NoVA area received one? |
| What does this mean? |
| It’s William and Mary’s version of a likely letter. It’s a postcard that says they’re basically going to be accepted. |
Why would they do this? |
Unless it is official. |
To kiss the ring. Yale actually calls people on the phone, I think. |
So they don’t commit somewhere else. |
| No cypher here...yet! I almost forgot that this is around the same time they started sending them out last year! |
| W&M was closed two days last week and has been a solid sheet of ice since. Mail might be running a little behind. |
So kids know an acceptance is coming. Could have helped my son last year. Had EA admits in by mid-Feb and only had W&M remaining for RD. If he had gotten a postcard, we'd have gone and visited around that time. We debated going, but he preferred to wait and see if he got in, and I agreed (we'd been there a year prior, so he'd at least seen it). By the time his RD acceptance came in late March, he'd already mentally committed elsewhere, and it was a losing battle trying to convince him to go revisit W&M in April. |
NP. Ah that makes sense. These RD schools lose good candidates. My kid applied to W&M, and a few other RD schools, but honestly they’re leaning toward awesome EA schools they got into! I wish W&M did it earlier. |
It seems they are doing this because they don't have EA or in lieu of EA. |
Yeah, it was pretty much melted by friday. The nothing burger that was saturday's storm really pi$$ed off the student body - which was expected a full blown snowball war in the sunken garden. |
| Oh this would be great, I didn’t know they did this. W and M is my kid’s first choice but at the time they weren’t sure enough to ED. |
| Worth noting that they don’t send them to all applicants who will be admitted. I think it’s something like 25%. So not getting one doesn’t mean anything. |
