What do we think will happen on Monday?

And to the PP who said that their street still has not been plowed... It is very hard to believe your claim. If, by some chance, you speak the truth, why in the world did you not call VDOT on Tuesday to report the mistake?

different poster and our neighborhood is still a disaster. a pickup truck with a plow came by sunday later afternoon but barely made a dent in the snow. there is barely a one car path plowed on the main road in our neighborhood with most spots being sheets of ice. we are walkers but there is no way my kids are making it up a hill 1/2 mile to school. no salt was ever put down. i want school open but i think more neighborhoods are a mess than you’d like to admit

Ours is like that too. Plow came through once on Sunday night. One lane which is currently snow covered, but pavement is starting to show through. At this point though it is passable. If a plow came through and blocked the end of my driveway after we have dug our way out to the plowed land I'd be pi$$ed. I don't think that will happen though.

The crosswalks at Longfellow (Westmoreland and Kirby) were not clear today. I can’t imagine it being safe if we add another inch on A bulldozer will be needed to clear those mounds of ice. I would guess a delay at minimum to accommodate middle school. We are fortunate the bomb cyclone is missing our area (unless that changes).

It will open monday

Yes. Will be a delay.

This ice is insane and not going anywhere. I do not think it's at all safe to send buses out until melting happens. Several crosswalks, bus stops, sidewalks, parking lots, etc are completely buried. I am a teacher and would be more than happy to do virtual school next week, so it's not about not wanting to work. I'm actually anxious to get back and finish my Q2 grades, but not if the conditions are still this bad Monday.

It’ll definitely be a delay.

You know that's going to happen though.

In the Mt. Vernon area, my son's bus stop is completely covered in ice and kids will have to walk in MIDDLE of the street to get to the bus because of how the plowing has left massive ice/snow piles on the edges. And yes the bus stop is on a busy road.
Not speculating either way, just stating what's going on in this area.

Without significant melting or significant effort at snow removal, the busses won't be able to navigate our neighborhood and the kids will have to wait for the bus in the street ( which is only plowed to one lane in spots)

There is no way they can stay closed another day. Not happening.

Has anyone seen heavier equipment (plows with serated blades, backhoes, bulldozers, whatever) out working on the ice that's still impeding intersections on bus routes and around schools? I haven't seen any trucks in my neighborhood (Falls Church) since the plows finished Monday.

There are streets in the Kingstowne area that have not been plowed yet. VDOT has been contacted several times.
Love your confidence, though!

The bus rides are for the most part longer and kids have commutes to get to the bus stops. The teachers also commute from all over. My public school kid would also like to be back. Get your kids who are at home out there to shovel and break up the ice.

The private school bus stops ard at commercial or church locations that are safely plowed.

Many of the public school bus stops are 4 foot tall ice mounds on unpllwed sidewalks along busy roads.

I’m kind of surprised we don’t have official “limited bus route” maps for these situations. Like, instead of going into all the neighborhoods down side streets, a single pick up point at the front of the neighborhood for these times. Parents could walk with their children or drive a few blocks to the designated safe stop.

I think it is wild to assume buses will be able to do half their normal routes safely Monday.

I also think Reid desperately wants everyone back in buildings, so I predict on time but admin telling us to “be generous with not marking tardies”.

If you all would just stop suing the schools nonstop they wouldn’t be so gun shy. They just won’t take the liability risk.
