Til you are found drowned in your (plunge) pool |
| DH is very fit but not bulked up. He’s 6ft tall and around 180lbs. He’s in the gym multiple times a week but he also rotates in yoga, jiu jitsu and different types of runs. If you saw him in shorts and a t-shirt you’d know he’s in good shape but he appears average, unless he takes his shirt off. You can see all the muscles in his torso. He lifts for strength, not appearance or bulk. His workouts specifically revolve around maintaining a heart rate below 140bpm at levels high exertion. |
He's not UMC. |
NP - I'm in Bethesda and several of the dads are very into macros, cold plunges, saunas, sometimes extreme diets or at least ones that require a lot of precision or special ordering, working out with trainers. Haven't noticed the chicken legs thing but lots of folks trying to optimize health. And yes, these are law firm partners, execs, etc. |
| My DH has always been "jacked" since his college days playing football followed by a few years as a USMC officer. People only notice it now in the business casual era because he's wearing polo shirts to work instead of dress shirts and blazers. He lifts and plays sports for fun, but not for the look. We are definitely UMC as he's a Sr Exec at a FAANG |
The new face of Lucid is Timothee Chalamet, who is exactly the opposite of what you’re talking about. |
|
Yes OP. Totally know what you're talking about. Cold plunge, red light therapy, zone 2 or 5 from Attic, protein protein protein, circadian rhythm stuff from Huberman, oura rings, sleep mattresses etc!
|
| *zone 2 or 5 from Attia |
I don't even understand what you said here. Get better company. |
| My exH got into sleep maxxing and apparently according to the kids goes to bed at 9pm every night now. He also has a $5k ice plunge tub, and wears a red light head lamp thing to regrow his bald spot. |
I go to bed at 9 most nights, as soon as the kids are in bed. I've always been an early-to-bed/early-to-wake person. |
1%-3% is rich. |
+1 to all of this. And worse, they are telling everyone like they are some sort of expert! |
|
I think lifting is easier to maintain an addiction to or be integral to your daily routine than cardio. With intense cardio you get tired, if you are tired it sucks, you will get some sort of overuse injury, weather can play into it, or it just gets boring to be on the treadmill an hour a day.
Lifting , heavy lifting, you spend 90% of time chilling listening to music between reps to recover. My 18 year old has been lifting for 4 years and is extremely muscular because of it. |
NP but I think the OP is referring to something beyond what you're doing. It's peacocking and vanity, showing off, like RFK Jr and Hegseth 's push-ups. It's a certain aesthetic which is showing off big guns and how jacked you are. Maybe they feel better, maybe they don't. It's about taking supplements and drugs to get there. |
