I first noticed this phenomenon a few years ago with tech bro$ fawning over Peter Attia et al. Then I started seeing it among my UMC biglaw neighbor men - the dorkiest of Federalist Society guys are now babbling about cold plunging and “macros.” (And have huge pecs with chicken legs)
Now I see that my favorite podcaster - a brilliant, genial nerd with one of the most downloaded podcasts in the US - is also newly jacked. Can someone explain how we got to this place where 150 minutes/ week of cardio + a bit of functional resistance training is no longer adequate for the top income deciles? It’s a competition, right? |
| IDK, but DH and I were out to dinner in NYC last night and it struck me as funny that most of the men at the bar had the same look . . . short, balding, with arms and torsos out of proportion with their legs. Plus they all were wearing tight skinny pants with fitted untucked shirts. I'm glad I'm not single. |
| My DH is upper middle class, not taking testosterone, and not lifting. So, no? Not everyone? |
| DH lifts because it is part of his job, but no steroids or cold plunges. HHI 330k. No one in our circle is doing this as far as I can tell. |
Same HHI, and my DH does not lift or “biohack.” What is your husband’s job? |
Eeewww, ick! I wonder why anyone would think that was attractive. |
Federal LEO. He gets a certain amount of time per week to work out while on the clock. He also has to pass a pretty strict annual physical, so he keeps an eye on his BP, weight, etc. to avoid the headache that would go along with an issue popping up during the exam. |
| My buttocks does this |
| I have not noticed this. |
| It’s to keep up with every woman in their circles getting surgery to keep their youth looks. That’s universal and a fact. |
So they’re following the path forged by Lauren Sanchez and Bezos? Who did not look like that until he took up with her |
|
Hardly any men are actually jacked anymore or ever were.
Don't confuse a little muscle under a lot of fat with being solid muscle. |
OP here. I know what I am looking at and I stand by what I said. It’s a very specific Rivian - Lucid demographic. The decile who can afford to finance a dedicated cold plunge pool and pay for a Prenuvo Not “any men” I pass in AutoZone |
| No. But none of our close friends are divorced. I think divorced people often go a little nuts trying to be 20 again and it never works. |
|
No.
Sigh. Stay off social media. Real life is so much more diverse in its pursuits. |
