This is the dumbest comment. Nobody is indoctrinated at universities. Did you even attend or you quoting some Fox News line?

Obviously you haven’t been in college for a few decades.

Don’t worry college will only be for the rich soon. So your kid won’t be exposed to it.

Colleges are dominated by Democrats. They have f’d up higher ed just like they ruined cities, k-12 schools, the military, sports, & everything else they touch.

Translation: “Things were so much better when higher education, the military and sports were only for white males”

We all must agree with the Heritage Foundation/MAGA/Yarvin. Also the war on discrediting college degrees is really about dismissing women because the majority of people graduating colleges are women.

There’s something to be said about being educated - it naturally clues you in to what’s wrong with Trump. That’s why Trump doesn’t want people to be educated. It’s as simple as that.

First, I totally agree that the prejudiced exclusivity of the past was wrong and should never have been allowed. College entrance should be open to all 💯.

Still, the capitalism of the markets has taken that and created a college for everyone to the point that some of these degrees are no longer certificates of education. They really are participation trophies. I'd be interested to know if the same holds for top 20 schools as for lower tier.

Because they treat the students and their overinvolved parents like customers rather than students. When someone is paying you 10s of thousands per year for a product, the institution (now business) is incentivized to keep the customer happy. So when little Johnny skips his lectures "because of his mental health" and fails his final, he and his parents can throw a fit and get the school to let him retake it. Little Johnny has done this his entire educational career, and expects it to continue in the workforce. Deadlines are mere suggestions, he should get endless second chances, and his comfort is paramount.

Johnny may be president one day.

Hell, Joe Biden graduated 76th out of 85 from SUNY law.

DP... Obviously, you are a FOX-News indoctrinated troll who just believes what they have to say about it.

Yeah, not much.

Do you really believe college students are packing auditoriums to protest for trans rights? Look at to picture that's with that article. A small classroom with fewer protestors than students in even an advance math lecture. When the numbers get up to a typical Pysch101 lecture, wake me.

It does exist. The article cites several examples of it. There's ideological programming and brainwashing everywhere. It has been building for the better part of two decades.

Sorry to rain on your sacred cow (and your safe space).

NP.

My kid just graduated with a bachelors' in computer science. He can write code in C, Java, Python, Javascript and several other languages, he can query data in SQL, OpenCypher and other query languages, he understands algorithms, he understands git and version control and modular programming and cloud and code reuse and best practices, he understands cryptography, machine learning, and many other things. And he and his classmates did all of this while there were Gaza protests and other things going on on campus.

Because guess what? YOU seem to falsely believe that "wokeness" and "DEI" and "pro Hamas protests" and "marxist ideology" everything else are 99% of what goes on on a college campus when in fact the REALITY of it is that it's barely 1% of what goes on on a college campus.

Sorry to rain on YOUR "sacred cow" of FOX News hyperbole and lies and gross distortion and exaggerations and fabrications. All of this nonsense of yours is to sow fear, uncertainty and doubt about higher education and dumb down the population because authoritarians view education as a danger and believe a dumbed-down populace is easier to mislead and control.

THAT is the biggest truth of this thread.

Dummy Trump couldn't even get into law school and probably wouldn't have gotten an undergrad degree if he didn't have a rich dad buy his way in.

Cadet Bonespur would have served his country in the military too.

I bet Trump paid people to do his schoolwork. No way he got thru college in his own with his untreated ADHD. At any rate, he didn’t learn much while there—the gaps in his knowledge are huge.

ALL of this. Since time immemorial the GOP has been drumming up enormous fear in the populace of things that don’t actually have much impact on everyday people. I’m Gen X and still waiting for the “Africanized killer bees” (note the dog whistle) that were supposedly migrating up through Mexico in the 1970s and were going to kill us all.

I’m a Gen-Xer and yes I do see the phone addiction. There also is a little of entitlement from some new hires. But here is where I give props to Gen-Zers in my field (nursing): they have better boundaries and often won’t allow themselves to be abused by management. They speak up about safety issues, like short staffing. I think this generation also sees that work ethic doesn’t necessarily translate into success. For me, it’s hard to not have work ethic. But I know working hard does not mean I’ll get ahead. It’s about personality, who you know, who likes you, being a “yes” person to the higher ups. I still work hard, but some of these kids see the BS and are like “meh, I’ll do the minimum.”

And I’ll add-I wonder if the speaking up bit also has something to do with why managers are hesitant to hire Gen-Zers.

Universities provide education, not home training. When I was a young adult, I certainly made some errors as a new professional, but no one has to tell me that I can't wear the same dress to the office that I wore to the club on Saturday. No one had to teach me how to show up on time. No one had to teach me how to answer the phone like an adult or to at least appear busy out of respect for my job and my boss. My mother made sure I knew these things before sending me off to college. Why are kids not receiving any life skills education at home anymore?

My kids are just starting out, but I was surprised at the degree that society seems bent on interference with parenting. It's an accumulation of little things. But basically society views kids as sources of revenue. Want your kid to play basketball. Take her out and shoot some hoops? No! Hire a coach. Do these coaches, instructors and teachers reinforce parental involvement well as long as you pay them. Want to throw a birthday party with some friends? Get ready to have your house destroyed, then sued for food poisoning or something, because you didn't have them sign a liability waiver. They all think it's a bounce palace. Then all the school boards are run by people with political agenda, because everyone gets a say in education (not just parents). See the pattern... It's clear that many parents don't fight back against these social forces very much.

+1. GenX here. I've seen the "yes" people not get ahead either. Just be no nonsense, but polite and do the job you're paid to do. When they don't need you or can hire others at lower cost, it just doesn't matter. They'll throw you off the train. I've had great reviews but I know I'm still here only because my customers require on shore staff. That's it.

"The class of 2025 college graduates is entering a difficult job market. Not only is there economic uncertainty, but hiring managers also express skepticism about the capabilities and professionalism of young workers joining the workforce.

Resume.org surveyed 1,000 hiring managers in April to understand how they feel about hiring recent college grads and what challenges they’ve encountered with this group.

Takeaways:

8 in 10 hiring managers say a recent college graduate didn’t work out at their company in the past year, and 65% say they had to fire one

78% of hiring managers say recent grads spend too much time on their phones

More than half say recent grads are unprepared for the workforce and difficult to manage

1 in 6 are reluctant to hire this cohort"

Corporations prefer to hire cheap.

Indian h1bs. And/or OPTs

Our own government creates these US citizen replacement programs
Anonymous
H1b has been replacing US citizens for 35 years now

Microsoft fired thousands of workers and yet continues to hire h1bs.

Microsoft laying off about 6,000 people, or 3% of its workforce and yet Microsoft maintaining 4,725 H-1B approvals.

H1B has NOTHING to do with filling skilled labor.

2 questions I challenge readers to answer ...

1. how could we have a skills shortage for over 35 years?

H1B was created by Bush Immigration act 1990 to address a mythical skills shortage, but that was the propaganda, it really was created to reduce salaries for Masters and PHds .

2. why are H1B visas allocated randomly, why not allocate visas based on salary, since the higher salary would be for the most desired skills?

this was recommended and almost implemented in 2021 but the industry roared about this, and it was ignored by Biden/Harris. The law needs to require that aliens be paid 150% of the normal wage for any of these jobs. a measure like this was adopted in Australia and it pretty much killed the desire for an alien workforce.
