Managers sre avoiding hiring recent college grads

Did we fail in educating them?

"The class of 2025 college graduates is entering a difficult job market. Not only is there economic uncertainty, but hiring managers also express skepticism about the capabilities and professionalism of young workers joining the workforce.

Resume.org surveyed 1,000 hiring managers in April to understand how they feel about hiring recent college grads and what challenges they’ve encountered with this group.

Takeaways:

8 in 10 hiring managers say a recent college graduate didn’t work out at their company in the past year, and 65% say they had to fire one

78% of hiring managers say recent grads spend too much time on their phones

More than half say recent grads are unprepared for the workforce and difficult to manage

1 in 6 are reluctant to hire this cohort"

Not a surprise, judging from some recent grads working at our office. Many dress unprofessionally. And the phone addiction, oh my goodness.

Everyone gets a trophy ends when you walk across that stage and get the diploma.

Do a better job hiring. Some of these students are outstanding.

That said, phones need to be restricted in school in work and in life to a large degree.

It a very bad economy thanks to Trump. Companies are canceling internships for this summer, new IPOs are non existent, construction starts are close to zero, etc.

Because it is Trump and the Republicans fault.

The recent grads are great at my office. We actually have problems with millennials! They can’t seem to show up before 10, leave early, and one kept falling asleep at his desk. I expect this group to have their act together but no. The entitlement is astounding.

Grads with terrible habits and work ethics are in some way a function of a political candidate? Only if that candidate is their parent.

Because the elderly who started it couldn’t figure out which forum to put it in. Keeping up with technology is hard enough for the 80+ crowd.

Not true! Recent grads are well-educated in TikTok and grievance.

Putting a pause on student loan repayment for four years added to this attitude. They didn't save the money for when the payment mandates returned. Now the shock sets in that they have $500 less a month in disposable income.

Universities no longer provide an education; only indoctrination.

Universities provide education, not home training. When I was a young adult, I certainly made some errors as a new professional, but no one has to tell me that I can't wear the same dress to the office that I wore to the club on Saturday. No one had to teach me how to show up on time. No one had to teach me how to answer the phone like an adult or to at least appear busy out of respect for my job and my boss. My mother made sure I knew these things before sending me off to college. Why are kids not receiving any life skills education at home anymore?
