Not going to happen. Musk controls Treasury and Treasury issues reports on how close the country is to the debt ceiling. There will be no report issued so no shut down. |
This was before Trump took office and there was a talk of an audit, which is not happening. There is no audit, just massive dismantling. AND there was more the Bernie's quote, his full quote is: Elon Musk is right. The Pentagon, with a budget of $886 billion, just failed its 7th audit in a row. It’s lost track of billions. Last year, only 13 senators voted against the Military Industrial Complex and a defense budget full of waste and fraud. That must change. |
Congress will shut it down. |
Yep, and Musk will be taking "extraordinary measures" to keep the government funded without disclosing those measures. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if Musk simply mints a $4trillion crypto coin and declares the debt ceiling debate over. |
What? No. These are two separate things. The shutdown will happen on the ides of March if Congress doesn’t pass a budget or continuing resolution by then. If we crash through the debt ceiling, then we will default on our trillions of dollars of debt. Yellin thought it would likely happen in March, depending on receipts. Given that Trump is trashing the economy, it’ll probably happen sooner. Both are indicative of the republican inability to govern. Both are entirely avoidable. But they are different. |
I wish all government employees would just walk out. What are they going to do? Fire everyone? Being the entire country to a halt and get these people out of the White House. |
My trip to a National Park will be over by the deadline, so I really don't care.
If I did care, what good would that do. All I can do these days is care about myself and my family. Which I think is what a majority of the country wants. Everyone for themselves. |
Your family is going to struggle through economic depression, job losses, and other major things like failing infrastructure, dangerous healthcare, etc. How long do you think you would actually last if it were truly everyone for themselves? Have you seen what happens to regular people and their families in places like Haiti? |
Well, we're going to find out sooner rather than later. Like Elon said "there will be some pain." I assume the US is headed for a flu pandemic and a second Great Depression all wrapped up in one. |

“That's much to the chagrin of Democratic voters who are flooding congressional phone lines and want more forceful resistance out of their leaders. But with delicate negotiations still underway, top lawmakers have tried to keep the temperature down as they try to win concessions in private.” Delicate negotiations?!? For what? Their response here seems way out of touch with what is happening. |
Oh, that's rich. Do you supply your own water, electricity, gas, fuel? How do you ensure that they are safe to use? Do you homeschool your children? How do you feel about bringing grandparents under your roof if they can't afford to live without social security and Medicare? How do you feel about driving on public roads? Flying? Taking the train? Do you feel safe eating food and taking medicines if none if it has been regulated? Do you think seatbelts don't save lives? How about making sure that your money in the bank is federally insured? SMDH - you are an idiot who is completely ignorant about all the ways that government workers enable you to live. You want a lawless society? Well, buckle up because we're about to live it. Good luck, stupid |
Yes, please shut the zoo down. |
Wtf. There are not "delicate negotiations" people, Congress is no longer in charge, not even the Republicans in Congress are in charge. Elon's going to fire most federal employees anyhow, so what's they point in keeping any part of the government open? |
They need to wake up and smell the coffee. It’s not the 90s anymore. This is the Dems last chance to show leadership and they need to stop kidding themselves about reaching across the aisle. |
Nope, that's Fox News. |
