Talk of potential government shutdown?

Johnson wants to do it this afternoon/today. But he’s not the speaker Pelosi was and he’s relying too heavily on Trump to whip the votes for him.

Republicans in Congress: I need Trump to tell me how to vote. I’m giving away my power.

If it were actually a clean CR, it would be supportable by the majority of the House. Sadly, it isn't and Trump and Johnson are going to have to figure it out.

Maybe. I mean, if it were merely a clean CR, it would still continue Trump's current impoundment and would allow impoundment through the rest of the fiscal year. Dems (and some Rs) are not amused.

And now the GOP is trying to give away its power on tariffs through the CR, which may strengthen the senate Dems spines’

What happened to all the squawking about getting the deficit and debt under control?

Can he do even that without Dem votes?
I think Dems shouldn't give him the votes, even for a CR, if they can't trust Trump will actually spend the money on the things it was appropriated for.

A lot of the stupid bloat needs to be cut because dems let Biden administration through money at everything without thinking. I feel ashamed as a US taxpayer for the kind of things coming out of USAID and we don't money to support people at FEMA. Go ahead and some of you would come up with something silly to support why we couldn't support or bureaucracy or something else.

DP. There have been hiring freezes for most of the past ten years. Last year, lots of agencies were finally able to hire lots of new employees, both young grads and older more experienced employees to help build the replacements of the old-timers who are facing retirement. Not bloat but needed people.

Then Elon Musk fired them all.

I am not talking about employees. They have significant number of contractors but my main concern is how they are spending money on some of these stupid programs. How could they allow it?

Contractor hires are also slowing because decision makers and agency decision heads arent feeling empowered when so many contracts are being cancelled.

As expected, all Republicans are falling in line to vote for the CR. Zero chance of a shutdown.

Voting is scheduled for 4pm.

Media sure got a lot of clicks driving the narrative about Republican "hold outs" lol

Who else is a holdout? Have only seen Massie and the Dems.

Why pass funding if Trump isn’t going to follow it?!

Nothing yet. Maybe Johnson doesn’t have the votes?

He’s probably waiting again until midnight, will tell everyone the vote is delayed, will try to send the Democrats home, and then hold a vote five minutes later so that his holdouts can vote no.
