I'm hoping someone here can educate me - I've heard a few times on NPR that there is concern about being headed towards a government shutdown. How/why would this happen, and what would trigger it? |
PP here - to clarify, it seems like this would be about the current CR and budget, but is there something else that could happen sooner? |
No, we're talking about March. I predict a long shutdown. |
NPR is our propaganda machine. Beware. |
Agreed. There’s a lot of work to do on the reconciliation package. Probably 2-3 month shutdown. |
Elon/Trump want to get rid of the debt ceiling. And I think the Dems will hold until Elon is out or at least until Trump agrees to create his DOGE agency through Congress like he's supposed to. |
I would kind of welcome it at this point, I need a break from the barrage of constant emails about weaponizing law enforcement, protecting women against trans people, enhanced performance standards etc. |
That wouldn’t stop. But air travel eventually would. And then the shutdown will end. |
Why would that end the shutdown? |
A shutdown feels inevitable. |
It’s one of the few things that would immediately unite our whole populace. It was the breakthrough event that ended the last excessively long Trump shutdown. |
Will shutdown be unavoidable or hinge upon certain factors - what % likely? Curious, DP here. |
??? reporting factual information that unless a budget deal is reached, the government will shut down is not propaganda. |
It will require that the different factions of the republican party agree to a budget. Given this has never happened in the past, it is unlikely to happen now, so it is likely that for the 6th or 7th time in the last decade, the government will shut down under a House of representatives with GOP control. |
Rich people would tell Congress to open the skies |
