which HS has the worst and best principal

My eldest son who had Billie-Jean Bensen (the previous RHS principal before she left), was not able to really connect with the school's community and had bad security during her administration at the time + her terrible handling during the rape case that happened 7 years ago.

The newer principal (Rhoshanda Pyles) doesn't seem any better, I will give points that she does seem to be engaging with her community a lot, but I have heard enough that she is unnecessarily an aggressive person and can't take things seriously to any level. She does like to interact with the students at the school, but parents don't think of it that way.

Didn't the new principal basically take charge on the entire homecoming dance last year? I heard she ended it early because the kids at the school were acting up and ruining the dance, which made her end it early. Still in any way, she has done a terrible job at handling it.

He was assistant principal at Paint Branch and Argyle Middle School before he got the SVHS job.

I don't know any other recent stuff with her. I really hope she doesn't do this mistake tonight with the schools new homecoming dance tonight.

I heard the assistant principal is worse than the principal herself, she is frequently more aggressive with students and is rather an annoyance to the kids that rather takes the security role and safety of the school a bit too high for standards. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but at least be more calm and less abrasive to your own students from the school.

It's not a mistake. This is the class of kids who were tearinf soap dispensers and sinks off walls and throwing them down hallways for tik tok challenges. Maybe not that school but these kids are completely out of hand and it's high time someone stood up to them. I don't k ow the principal but she sounds exactly like the leader that's needed in this environment.

This trend was 3-4 years ago PP, what are you talking about? The PP was referring to the dance that happened last year, are kids today still being involved in this trend?

My kid who is also a junior at Seneca says that the new principal seems more engaged with the students than Marc Cohen and we really liked Marc. As a parent, I see Mr. Hernandez (the new principal) at all the football games and other school events; and we see him directing school traffic in the mornings. It's only been a month of course, but so far, I like that he is much more visible around the school than Dr. Cohen was in his last couple of years there; again not disparaging him since he was a great leader.

+1
My kid who graduated from Seneca this year loved Dr. Cohen. It was even amazing to see him be the guest speaker for the graduation this year too. Hopefully, Mr. Hernandez can still make a great impact for SVHS.

This has nothing to do with what she did in any way of the homecoming dance.

She had ended the dance 30 minutes early because of crowd surfing in the school and the consumption of alcohol. And at some point, one kid had vomited on the dance floor during the dance. In any way, why the hell is the principal or even the security not being responsible enough to make sure the school handles enough safety for big events? It's literally their faults. They say they "ensure safety", when they have barely done anything to ensure awareness of their own students.

Anonymous wrote:How long do Principals typically last?

5-10 years in many cases

Is that for ES, MS, or HS?

Lots of turnover among HS principals lately. Beth Thomas has been at QO for six years, and she's currently the longest-tenured.

Now that Thomas has retired, the longest-tenured is Mark Carothers at Poolesville, who started there in 2019.

We've also been happy with Mr. Brown at Einstein. I also like that the teachers and staff seem happy there - I also work in a school and think it's a sign of good leadership when the staff seems happy to be there too.

I think elementary principals in general are the weak link.

He is really a big zero. Many, many staff do not like him at all. And he was universally disliked at Blake where he was before Einstein. I’m glad you’re having a good experience with him as a parent anyway!

The new Principal at Paint Branch is running it into the ground. Parents are not impressed.

Gaithersburg just got a new principal. For the past six years it was Mr. Cary Dimmick and he was wonderful for the school and MCPS. Unfortunately he left for Virginia.

The new principal previously taught English at GHS. The staff members seemed very happy when she got the job. I've met her a few times and she's super friendly, good energy.
