I don’t think it’s about caring what other people think. I think it’s about basic grooming. I think it’s unattractive so I shave. I’m fair with no real hair on my legs but I shave under arms and it’s easy. You can dress fashionably with the best makeup but if you have hair coming out from under your arms it immediately downgrades the look. Same with grown men in tank tops. Nobody wants to see their underarms at a nice restaurant when you’re eating. |

My 15yr old is blonde and only shaved her armpits and bikini area. Never the legs. She said today on the beach “you can really see my leg hair now that I am so tan” and then shrugged and went back to reading her book. She’s had a boyfriend for 7 months and it pretty girly girl.
It just doesn’t seem to be a thing she cares about and I love it |
Curious - if she doesn't care about the leg hair, why does she care so much about the bikini line? That's the worst place to shave. |
Luckily you don’t get to decide what “basic grooming” is for other people |
DP. I think what you say is reasonable, but I don't think this is about "basic grooming" but about what you find attractive, and what you find attractive is somewhat determined by when you grew up and what you saw around you. I also find it unattractive to have underarm hair so I shave. But norms change and the kids today see different standards. Heck, women used to find bare, unstockinged legs gross and inappropriate in the 1950s. Standards change. |
Thos is a creepy question. |
So when these 15-year olds get office jobs will they care about hairy legs? How would the boardroom look like in 10-15 years? |
|
my teen girls shave legs, under arm (even though leg hair not noticeable at all) and one has to get waxed all the time-its pricey, she is barely hairy at all but insists on getting waxed, all of her friends shave
there are girls who have hairy legs in her school, some as hairy as men, some dont shave under their arms either, the shavers and non shavers usually have friends with the same habits. |
Who knows. But surely standards will change and some will clutch pearls, because both change and pearl clutching has been going on since the dawn of time! |
Perhaps they’ll all be in pants. (No one wants to see men’s hairy legs in the boardroom, either, but they figured that one out.) Or perhaps board meetings will all be virtual and we’ll never know what anyone’s legs look like, not whether they’re wearing skirts or pants or anything at all. Regardless, the boardroom is not a reason for anyone to shave as a teenager. |
It's not a creepy question. It's reasonable to ask why someone thinks some visible areas need to be shaved and others don't. I'm genuinely curious. and I'm not a creep. |
I guess we'll find out in 10-15 years, though I suspect the board room will take a bit longer to change. Not many 20-somethings on the board. |
| My 18yo daughter doesn't shave her legs. I'm sure it goes hand in hand with her declaration that she is non-binary. She shaves her underarms, but who knows, maybe that will stop, too. |
If I were a betting woman, I would bet on all pants in the boardroom. |
| My daughter shave pits and bikini area but not legs too. The hair on her legs gets blond in the summer but pits and bikini is darker. I am trying to convince her to do laser hair removal. |
