It’s ridiculous there are only 2 Latino sounding names on that team. There are so many Latino girls in California and other parts of the country who have been playing soccer since they were preschoolers AND they have grown up watching soccer on TV with their families. Often the best ones okay in boys teams when they are younger because they are so good.

These girls get overlooked year after year. Several end up playing for Mexico and other countries in Latin America because a parent or grandparent is a citizen of that country.

It’s not just Latino players being overlooked. National team recruiters look for size and speed they do not value soccer iq. I’m sure US Soccer thinks that they can train the big ones to have a higher sense for the game. Sorry this is not how it works.

We need academies to let players define who gets on youth national teams not compromised and biased “recruiters”.

They can not “train” the one they have selected in technical skills. Technical skill, touch and soccer IQ are like speed and strength. You can train it to its max potential but some will have a much higher potential vs others. It’s like selecting baseball player on speed and size with little concern if they can catch and hit. In baseball there are many many players who have size, speed and athleticism but can not shoot or hit a three.

If travel was getting paid to develop players the selection process and training would be different. Let’s face it on the girls side by u14 the clubs are not doing any development. In Europe this is when they start to select the players.

Mexico’s women team beat the US playing in the US for gold Cup final. 10 Mexican players in the roster were born in the US including this player who scored the second goal.

I wonder how many of the Mexican players were snubbed by US Soccer which is why they went to the Mexican National Team.

Or, did they choose to play fo the Mexican National team over the USWNT.

Either way not good.

I think most are snubbed, never noticed, or even if they do make the team don't get playing time.

Here is another US born player - Casey Phair -who dreamed of playing for the USWNT but they didn't like her style of play. She ended up playing for her mother's country- South Korea in the World Cup last summer. She is the youngest World Cup player at age 16

She now is the youngest player to be signed by Angel City FC and will play for South Korea in the Olympics next year.

I blame ECNL for all of this. The coaches all know each other in an old boy network sort of way. They are heavily influenced by parental funding and they seem to be unwilling to understand that the 13 year star will likely fade by their 20’s. We could and should be doing so much better than this…

The USWNT should start their own league but then again they seem to have the same desire for connected players over merit when filling rosters. I'm sure we are going to see Alex Morgan representing the USWNT this summer despite her giving us absolutely nothing last year at the World Cup.

To be fair many ecnl girls are high level players. The real issue I see is that a roster requires diversity of talent. In the US there is a belief that if you are a forward with talent such talent translates to every other position and that is erroneous thinking. The other issue is the mentality that chaotic defensive effort will create turnovers and scoring opportunities which to a very degree is accurate but it comes with a cost. That chaos leaves openings that a tactical smart player can exploit even if that player is weaker athletically. The problem is that chaotic style works against weaker teams that most players see throughout their development years. So those teams win and winning begets promotion and the illusion of all being well. It is not…

What is chaotic defensive effort? Most coaches we've experienced in this area don't teach defense at all. None. Same with Goalkeeping. It's basically passing and shooting every practice.

Generally referring to a high press but even a press is organized. Not so much in US
