It’s ridiculous there are only 2 Latino sounding names on that team. There are so many Latino girls in California and other parts of the country who have been playing soccer since they were preschoolers AND they have grown up watching soccer on TV with their families. Often the best ones okay in boys teams when they are younger because they are so good. These girls get overlooked year after year. Several end up playing for Mexico and other countries in Latin America because a parent or grandparent is a citizen of that country.
It’s not just Latino players being overlooked. National team recruiters look for size and speed they do not value soccer iq. I’m sure US Soccer thinks that they can train the big ones to have a higher sense for the game. Sorry this is not how it works. We need academies to let players define who gets on youth national teams not compromised and biased “recruiters”.
They can not “train” the one they have selected in technical skills. Technical skill, touch and soccer IQ are like speed and strength. You can train it to its max potential but some will have a much higher potential vs others. It’s like selecting baseball player on speed and size with little concern if they can catch and hit. In baseball there are many many players who have size, speed and athleticism but can not shoot or hit a three. If travel was getting paid to develop players the selection process and training would be different. Let’s face it on the girls side by u14 the clubs are not doing any development. In Europe this is when they start to select the players.
