+1. They're very unflattering and make legs look short and chunky.

Depends on which MJs you're wearing and with which outfit. My 20 yo DD likes the chunky platform MJs from Doc Marten. They look great on her and she's only 5'0" tall and 95 lbs.

Not my DD but this looks really cute

If they were so unflattering and make legs look short/chunky, I don't think the Rockettes would wear them so often. Scroll through the pictures and you'll see it's what they wear most often. https://www.vanityfair.com/culture/photos/2012/12/photos-rockettes-costumes-choreography

Ok I am not on the side of people arguing against Mary Janes, but obviously the Rockettes wear them so the shoe doesn’t go flying off during a high kick

Well, sure, but if they didn't look good, the Rockettes would wear something else with a strap or one of their boots.

I like them because they stay on.

I can't understand why any grown woman would wear high heels that wreck her posture and cause ankle, tendon and calf injuries, and leave her unable to walk distances in comfort.

What shoes don’t stay on!?

For me, anything that doesn’t cover the instep. So, there has to either be a strap, or the shoe has to cover most of the foot.

If you have narrow heels, you walk out of almost anything. Alas, manufacturers seem so careful to be size inclusive by offering many styles in wide widths but very few in narrows.

I have narrow heels but need a wide toe box for bunions. I can basically only wear shoes that have laces or a strap or they fall off.

Your toes don't have to fill the whole shoe.

With a wide foot, any part of the point is painful.

Don't forget those of us who have bone spurs or arthritis! I can't wear any pointed toe shoes any more.

I get compliments from men on my Mary Janes all the time. They are funky with a vintage vibe and 3” heels.

Love them

You are not fun so there is no explanation I could provide that you would understand.

Go in peace.

BINGO!

Some people are so self-absorbed, they cannot imagine a world where people would make different choices. Nor can they fathom what it might be like to be less than fully able-bodied.

Is OP dissing Harajuku girls? Racist.

A mentally ill neighbor in her late 40s would wear mary janes, stripped 'holly hobby' knee socks and mini skirt with pig tails. She also only watched children's movies. I regret the day I ever spoke to her.

Depends how they're worn, like most things. PP's neighbor is obviously not the style icon. An adult woman dressed in a "normal" way w/Mary Janes, sure - fine. I have had them and would wear another pair if I found a pair that were comfortable.

Wow, you're so nasty. If dressing that way makes her happy instead of suicidal, what harm is she causing you?
Why do you discriminate based on appearance?

For shame, PP.
