You just described the DC Attorney General. |
Thank you. This is exactly what is happening. And the virtuous wealthy have the gall to brag about the destruction they are causing. |
Of course, he lives in an area that is less impacted by crime and is an UMC white male. All studies reveal that crime disproportionately harms lower income people, especially women of color. It’s easy to dismiss crime as unimportant when you are insulated from it by wealth and privilege. |
| Yes. I agree completely. |
MAGA Trumpers predicted it just as loudly, thank you.
|
Studies also reveal that lower income people are harmed the most by the justice system. Lower income women of color have lost their jobs, and then their homes and even their children, because they couldn’t afford $2k cash bail for shoplifting a pack of diapers. They’ve spent longer in jail awaiting trial than they would serve in prison as punishment. I won’t even get into the weaponization of drug possession laws against people of color. Black lives have been destroyed for less pot than a white frat boy might casually smoke in one weekend. Justice reform is admirable and shouldn’t be abandoned. With that being said, what DC is doing is just straight up laziness. Anything involving force or violence or a threat to society needs to be punished and society protected from the threat in the meantime. We can all agree that casual shoplifting and forcible carjacking are different crimes by nature. |
| I work for one of the largest trade associations in Washington. I would not have signed. I will be calling some of my colleagues who are on that letter. Call me slightly skeptical. I want to know who put that letter together. |
Oooh you’re slightly skeptical. Who gives a fck what you think? |
Skeptical about what? The crime and destruction in DC? |
Rev Al Sharpton calls these woke "progressives" Latte Liberals. |
How many days per week do you go into the office? |
I don’t call you slightly skeptical. I call you disconnected or, worse, clueless. |
No. We are a very large trade association who did not sign the letter. We are building out 45,000 sq ft downtown. We never even considered moving to NoVA. |
I am very connected and have friends at some of these trade associations. Some are so small they are not even worth listing. The letter was not helpful. I could have written a letter that said something. That was poorly executed. I speak to my employees every day. We have well over 100 - so not clueless. |
| The American Investment Council spearheaded this letter with a whopping 15 employees. |
