Who specifically are these "virtuous wealthy" braggarts? |

I employ a lot of people. Do you? |
You work for a trade organization lol |
Pretty sure this was spurred by the shooting of Mike Gill, who was very connected with the various finance related trade groups that likely spearheaded the effort. |
For shits and giggles let's do away with the conservative/liberal labels for now. This is a HUGE problem that we should all be concerned about, political affiliation aside. |
I was asking the person who works for the trade organization why we should care. He doesn't employ anybody. He just works there and could be replaced in an afternoon if something happened to him like w/ Mike Gill. |
wut? |
That's exactly what happened. Mike Gill was also a former Trump official. I thought the letter was misguided. If they wanted to do something, they would have come together to meet with the Mayor and have constructive demands. |
| You could tell DC would arrive here when the porch pirate stuff started and the Mayor could not care in the least. When you don't sweat the "small stuff" it leads to general lawlessness where everyone ends up feeling victimized. And everyone also ends up feeling like it's a lost cause so they might as well join in. For "regular" law abiding, tax paying residents that means running more red lights, double parking like. D-bag, not picking up your dog's crap. The whole broken windows theory. Deal with the small crime and it helps curb the bigger stuff. |
| I've been a DC resident since 1993. My children attend DC public schools. I'm ready to say "bring in federal control." |
| The small (12 employees) trade association that I've worked for the last 20 years maintains a small office downtown but we are all fully remote work and that's never changing. This began in 2020 when we renegotiated our lease and move into an office space one third of the size of what we were in. |
As stated consistently now for years, you won't get Federal control, which I'm assuming to you equals major cleanup, without you voting Republican across the board for years and years, starting with Trump. It is WAY more likely DC gets a lot worse, before it gets better. I've been reading DCUM for about 2 months and following DC out of great curiousity as a New Yorker, and you guys need a miracle, this is like a 400lb person, small "tweaks" are not going to move the needle, and if/when these "tweaks" do, it will take a long time to see any noticeable difference. Whenever this miracle change you're hoping for occurs, it's year's down the road of risk for your kids and family. This is like those that decided to live on the rim of the Chernobyl exclusion zone. The Political climate in DC wants no part of any meaningful, logical change. The only logical change for you to make is to leave DC, and then you'll ask yourself a year later why didnt I do it sooner? |
I run a 150 person trade association and we are in 3 days per week. Just built out 45,000 square feet downtown. |
| These Trade Associations should just vote with their feet and move out of DC's dangerous neighborhoods like Capitol Hill and K Street. Everything they do can be done remotely anyway, but if they really feel the need for an office, just move out to somewhere safe like Reston or Leesburg. |
