This! There is nothing virtuous about forcing people in poverty to live with rampant crime. It is selfish and cruel. Reminds me of the line in the back side of We Are the World, do they even know it’s Christmas. “Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you”. When ignorance fuels your virtuousness, you become a part of the problem. |
Also, Newsom is hoping/planning to run for president. CA continuing to be a disaster would be disaster for his political aspirations. |
True. But it's not virtuous either to spread crime and social ills to formerly safe areas in the name of "equity." Thanks, Bowser. |
THIS explains the timing. Odd that people in DC are so disconnected from major legislation. Did you all think this passed already? There was 1 vote, it has been further weakened since. |
The entire thing boils crime issue comes to capitalism vs. disproportionate impact. The stats are bad and so incarcerating people became less popular as social justice activists in the wake of George Floyd got the council’s ear and now all the policies are about wrap around services and alternatives to tough on crime stuff like violence interruptors. This entire problem could be solved if the USAO didn’t suck and actually prosecuted and the council got serious about crime. But no we have lenient members like Allen who basically sides with the perpetrators or crime over victims. Either get tough, like El Salvador, or watch this sht continue. |
Crime apologist. You are so out of touch. |
The situation in El Salvador is absolutely remarkable. Salvadorans elected a tough on crime president. And he followed through. The murder rate declined by 70 percent in ONE year. Subsequently, the number of migrants from El Salvador declined precipitously. It's a safe country now and people are choosing to stay. The quality of life has dramatically improved and the economy is thriving. Meanwhile, here in DC we let roughly 200 repeat violent criminals terrorize the city with impunity. And consequently, businesses are leaving. No one wants to go to the office anymore. Downtown is dead. Once bustling neighborhoods like Chinatown are becoming no-go zones. The major sports teams are leaving. Stores like CVS are getting repeatedly looted and now even detergent is locked up. Carjackings are up nearly a 1000 percent in a few short years. Murders are at twenty year highs. Traffic enforcement is non-existent. The metro consistently swells like weed. And people have become habituated to walking with their head on a swivel. Until progressives are voted out, DC will continue to be sucked into a doom loop. As commercial real estate continues to slowly implode and revenues decline, more and more services will be cut. More people will leave. Fewer will choose to spend money in DC. And it just goes on and on. Bad things feeding on bad things. All because the mayor, the city council, and the USAO refuse to lock up 200 violent felons. It's these roughly 220 people that are holding a city of 700,000 hostage. But this is what people voted for. Elections have consequences. The people of El Salvador chose law and order. And the people of DC chose mayhem. |
Actually it is DC Justice Lab and the poverty pimp industrial complex that seems to control the Council. The poverty pimps and DCJL need crime to continue to swell their coffers. Just like homeless - DC houses more now than there were to start with but the #s keep coming here. Ca-ching for the Homeless Industrial Complex orgs. Idealogues at USAO and AG too. https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/04/politics/black-prosecutors-dc-gun-cases/index.html |
Why do they NOT WANT to be accredited?? |
In DC, the “cell block” likely is someone’s political base — or the base for several local politicos. |
My friend was just in El Salvador and said it was heaven. |
Since moving to DC I have astonished by the breathtaking hypocrisy of the wealthy who espouse “progressive” values that actually hurt the underprivileged people they claim to help. All of the studies and data indicates that crime and criminality hurts poor people the most. They are much more likely to be victims or crime. But the affluent hear will scoff if you mention this fact and sweep crime under the rug while talking about defunding the police and restorative justice. |

One thing data shows, especially DOJ's, is that likelihood of being caught is the most important factor in reducing crime immediately. Our cops sitting in their cars on their phones (now with their lights flashing outside restaurants on Connecticut Ave) ain't going to fix a damn thing. Pinto's bill will also have no real effect unless MPD has had an intentional work stoppage.

So much this!!! |
