Scathing letter about crime from Trade Associations

This letter doesn’t say anything. I assume there’s context I’m missing about a bill they’re asking for? But why don’t they just say what they want?

The DC Council has delayed the crime bill so they can neuter it demonstrating they still don't get the problem. Or they just don't care.

Exactly. It is sick. Either they are completely stupid or they wanted people to die.

The letter’s timing is weird, as crime is down in DC significantly in 2024 relative to a year ago.

This letter should’ve been fired off last summer.

Here we go. Crime skyrocketed in 2023. To say it is down from 2023 means nothing. Compare to 2019 rates or GTFO.

The “Douglas Commonwealth” state legislature?!

I've seen nothing but people angry about this on here. There really were people denying this was an issue?

As recently as last summer. Reality mugged them too.

The site owner occasionally makes comments that insinuate the people who post about crime are delusional and concerned about nothing lol.

There are a lot of leases coming up for renewal. That is partly where this is coming from. The energy is all in NOVA now.

I just don't see DC as even slowing down current policies, never mind changing course...It's sad to watch gains slip away...

Ca has at least some statewide moderation.

In DC, there are no guardrails.

Well after business leaves, I hope Crime Justice Lab can take over all those buildings and replace the lost revenue.

Don’t count on your Council salary because we are coming for you next

He tried to shove this issue under the rug for years. No idea why. He had always seemed reasonable before. It is as if he lost his mind trying to prove he was virtuous. Well that attitude lulled people and destroyed the city. Nothing virtuous at all about it.

They are talking about Pinto's Secure DC bill that goes to a final vote next week. You can look it up. It has been significantly weakened since it was introduced. Mendo refused to respond and was coy when asked directly if DC Justice Lab was advising on revisions. He then attended one of their events.

The trade groups are not wrong on crime.

Did you miss Mendo telling Congress under oath that there is "no crime crisis" less than a year ago?

Sadly it is not uncommon for people to ignore reality and data in order to support their ideological beliefs.

The irony here is that more crime disproportionately hurts poor and marginalized people more than the wealthy.

Ignoring crime because here it’s the affluent white moms who post about it is not “virtuous” and is the definition of a luxury belief.
