I've seen nothing but people angry about this on here. There really were people denying this was an issue?
The site owner occasionally makes comments that insinuate the people who post about crime are delusional and concerned about nothing lol.
Of course, he lives in an area that is less impacted by crime and is an UMC white male. All studies reveal that crime disproportionately harms lower income people, especially women of color. It’s easy to dismiss crime as unimportant when you are insulated from it by wealth and privilege.
Studies also reveal that lower income people are harmed the most by the justice system. Lower income women of color have lost their jobs, and then their homes and even their children, because they couldn’t afford $2k cash bail for shoplifting a pack of diapers. They’ve spent longer in jail awaiting trial than they would serve in prison as punishment. I won’t even get into the weaponization of drug possession laws against people of color. Black lives have been destroyed for less pot than a white frat boy might casually smoke in one weekend. Justice reform is admirable and shouldn’t be abandoned. With that being said, what DC is doing is just straight up laziness. Anything involving force or violence or a threat to society needs to be punished and society protected from the threat in the meantime. We can all agree that casual shoplifting and forcible carjacking are different crimes by nature.
