Same sleep is good. Just let the kid be.

No one needs 10+ hrs of sleep. Lazy

Teens in the midst of a growth spurt do. Teen boy goes through phases where he eats a ton and sleeps until noon during vacation and then seems to have grown over the course of a couple days because his isn’t a seem to be once again too short.

Agree. But they don’t need to be gaming or FaceTiming until 3 or 4 am and then sleeping all morning. Especially not a 14 YO.

Be a parent OP.

Why not?

If you think it's OK for a 14 YO to be up and on electronics all night, even during their short 2-week Christmas break, I seriously hope you're not a parent.

Oh I am a parent of 3 teens. The youngest is 14. Yes this happens in our house during school breaks. It is no different than sleepovers where they are doing the same thing.

Sleepovers are not everyday events. They also disrupt kids moods and attention the next day, which is not a good thing. Fine, just admit that you're cool with your 14 YO staying up all night talking/ interacting with god knows who online, and sleeping away the next day. It's easy enough for you to look the other way and hope/ pretend nothing is wrong with this.

Yes I am cool with this. I do not think there is anything wrong with it. I mean it is not ideal, but oh well.

We take a family walk every morning during breaks at 9am. It’s up to my 13 and 15 year old if they what breakfast or coffee before we leave. They’re normally up at 8:30 and change, have something to eat and we’re out the door by 9am.

We’ve done this for over a decade. Just our thing.

14 year old was never allowed to sleep that late. By 17, on weekend only and not if we have a family event, etc. If they stay up too late and are tired, they know that is on them by that age.

What are they doing until 3am?

I don’t worry too much about it. Sometimes I’ll even stay until 1am with my tween and teen, just goofing off. But usually, the kids are off devices by 10:30 and, if we have nothing planned, they wake up when they wake up. I loved that sleeping in time when I was a teen.

Back in the 90s I used to stay up all night reading books and sleep all day on weekends. I have PhD and am a productive member of society. Nowadays I’m usually asleep by 9:30 (tonight is an exception). I think it’s ok.

Today’s teens are staying up all night watching porn on their computer, playing shooter games, or watching YouTube trash. They aren’t up reading Great Expectations by candle night

I don’t control their sleep schedule during breaks. I’m sure some of your teens cannot wait to go off to college so they can be free.

Why do they need to be up at 9:30? Your senior will be away at college in a few months and can sleep as late as they please on the weekends.

It’s this weird, outdated, puritanical stick-in-an-orifice mindset favored by old people and DCUM Moms. It’s idiotic, of course.

It just burns your muffins that no one cares that you judge their parenting. Good.

DP. Did you reply to four posts back to back with these gems? You sound nasty and defensive.

NP here. Do you really think that there is no difference between staying up late to read a book and staying up late to watch junk videos on YouTube (night after night after night)?
