If they are waking up at 2pm and going to sleep at 4am or later that is not good for them. Ask anyone that works night shift. It isn’t the same quality of sleep staying up all night and sleeping well through the day. Staying up all night doing nothing but games/screens then sleeping over half the day only to wake up and lay around doing more nothing for the first hrs of waking up and then come down for dinner and then what? Back to games? No. If your teen spends their whole break gaming all night and sleeping all day, you are a parent failure |
| Lots of teens do this. Don’t you remember being a teen? |

I didn't have electronics, even a TV, when I was a teen in the nineties, in my bedroom, and I still easily slept till noon. So yes I think electronics in the bedroom are bad but it's not the only issue. Part of this is circadian teenage rhythm.
OP, I'd say make sure no electronics are in the bedroom past a certain hour (take them when you go to bed) and tell the kid you're waking them up at 11am or 1130. That's late enough. |
| Thank you parents for all wonderful support and guidance. I would take into consideration removing electronics away from bedroom or switching WiFi at 10 pm and creating habits of sleeping. It is holiday and hope to switch it back to a good sustainable schedule and still allowing teens to be teens. |
No. I’ve never slept past 10 in my entire life. I could see a 14 yr old maybe sleeping until noon, max, if they were up late (and my late that would mean midnight latest, not electronics all night). Sorry, 2pm wake up is extreme and points to problems going on |
Your teens and all of their friends get up before 10am everyday during Xmas break? |
DP here. Mine do. But they have to leave their electronics charging in the kitchen. |
| My teens have electronics in their room, but go to sleep at 10 and wake up at 8 during break. didn’t have electronics in my room and slept until noon on weekends. It’s how some/most teens are wired. |
Yes. I have an 12 and 14 yr old and they are both up by 9 on their own, sometimes 10 at the latest. They are typically asleep by 11pm. |
I have no problems with them sleeping in during breaks, but not too much. If they have easy access to their friends why would they want to waste their vacation sleeping? Wouldn't they want to hang out with their friends having fun? Especially If they usually don't have much free time. |

My 13 year old is a morning person. He was up at 6:30 this morning just kind of…ambling about the house. When it got light he took the dogs on a walk. He typically goes to bed around 9 (his choice, I don’t really enforce a particular bedtime).
My 15 year old is less of a morning person but has sports practices in the am. Or she has been meeting a friend and friend’s mom at the gym a couple of times these past couple of weeks. So she’s usually up by 9-10. Often with a bit of complaining. She likes to watch movies in the evenings and I think usually goes to sleep about midnight. |
This is why I hated going back to my parents house once I was in college. It's like they delighted in waking me up as early as possible, even if we had no plans. Let the kids sleep in once in a while people, especially during the holidays or weekends, if you don't have anything special going on. |

Once in a while. No big deal.
Teenagers who chronically stay up until 3am playing video games and sleep all day? Loser path. Big time. |
Please grow up. |
We are talking about during Xmas break. |
