My house is on fire

OP is clearly a troll.

Have you noticed how she hasn't re-entered the conversation?

Not to hijack this thread, but did you see the movie Backdraft? That was a big fire. So scary![

If you read my post carefully, which you obviously didn't, I never said that there were only three reasons. I said these were the TOP reasons.

And by the way, some of us actually don't like all the attention of a house fire caused by smoking (Yes, I WILL mention how my house fire was started, even if you think I'm showing off). You just keep rubbing your two little sticks together and hope for the best. Yeah, right.

Sorry, but even your attempt to classify certain causes of fire as "top" causes smacks of elitism.

Also, it just underscores the point that this fire is all about you, and not about your MIL and her needs. Clearly you were pushing the whole fire-by-smoking thing in the first place. You need to take a step back and consider your MIL as a person, so you can see what causes of fire would have been appropriate to your MIL and her modus operandi, before you jump to conclusions about how she started the fire at your house.

(Yes, I saw Backdraft, and it was really great!)

I'm sorry, but I have a BIG problem with OP trying to blame her MIL. I think this thought process points to a serious flaw in OPs character. CPS should be called for the protection of the children.

Anonymous wrote:OP, I have taken the time to find out what are the top three ranked reasons for houses catching on fire, which I'll post. I realize that people do not like to see these things ranked, that these reasons may not "fit" your fire, but frankly, let's get a grip on reality. You cannot possibly say that a MIL starting a fire is even in the SAME LEAGUE as these other reasons.

1. Smoking (that actually includes three apparatus: cigars, cigarettes, and pipes...but everyone just refers to them as "Smoking")
2. Cooking
3. Heating

I'm sure MIL is a perfectly good way to set a fire, but most recognized fire experts (and there are experts, whether people want to believe it or not) would not put MIL on the same plane as the Big 3 reasons.

Why should we take your word for this? Do you have fire statistics to back this up? Plus fire causes are pretty volatile, so your annual numbers are pretty much useless.

If your MIL (and DH) were a different race from you, would you be more likely to blame her?

Oh brother. Here we go.

How do I get my kids recruited by the fire department? Is there any type of fire we should be setting? Will DC's overall lack of athletic skill hurt his chances? And do we have to call the fire department's attention to ourselves, or do we just sit back and wait for them to come?

You MUST hold them back before beginning kindergarten. It is a well-known fact that the fire department will only hire those who are 20 when in high school.

sorry, it just seemed so DCUM-ish. I don't want to see it actually discussed either!

Anonymous wrote:OP, I totally know how you are feeling. Your house is on fire, you're hot, you're scared of the flames reaching you, you want to race out of the house...

Listen, I am not trying to discourage you from leaving the house if you feel like you absolutely can't take it anymore. I just wanted you to know there are resources out there for new moms whose houses are burning down, and they were really so helpful for me when my first house was burning. Someone can come over and help you learn how to manage the flames, the smoke, the cinders flying in your eyes (believe me, I've been there! ) and they can even help you build up your body's ability to handle the pain (like, by running out of the house, but then coming back in after you've caught your breath, etc).

Anyway, if you can manage to stay in the house at least until it's been burning 3 months, even, you will have helped your family build up so much scar tissue that will help them later on. I totally think it's worth it, but of course, you're not a bad mom if you decide to just run out of the house.

Good luck!!!

I just peed my pants. Thank you.

Hi OP! Everyone here is so judgmental. Don't listen to them!

I would totally lose it on my mother in law if she did that! Especially if I had made it clear beforehand that I didn't want my house on fire.
My mother in law used to give my kids cookies behind my back. So aggrevating!

OP here,

When I wrote "My house is on fire." I meant that I have a rash on my vulva. My MIL told me to use a mixture of "icy hot" and jalapeƱo juice to cure it.

Anonymous
Good heavens, I hope you don't use terms like "vulva" around your children. You shouldn't overexpose them to unnecessary medical terms. Just try ve-ve or va-jay-jay or something similar. Much cuter to hear them repeat that in public, which they'll inevitably do.
