None of that is in the SEL survey dummy. You’re talking about the Fairfax County Youth Survey. I don’t even have kids old enough to take that one and I know the difference. People may have good reasons to want their child to take one of these surveys and opt out of the other. To conflate the two is spreading bad information.

At least get your facts straight before trying to influence other people. I don’t know what crap you are reading online to get your information, but maybe stop to consider whether the source is telling the truth or whether they just want to evoke a certain reaction from you to suit their own agenda.

yeah, it’s quite useless. The elementary kids aren’t even sure how to respond to the questions. And, the teachers don’t use this data. So, who is addressing this or using this data?

Our counselor and school psychologist use this info to see if there are any trends that we should be addressing as a school. Like if there is an overwhelming majority scores saying that students don’t feel like they’re part of a community, that might be something administrators could work on as a school goal with the entire staff. It’s one data point that can help develop some larger schoolwide goals.

You can actually view the SEL survey with the exact questions online. One of the questions was about race. It didn’t belong in the survey. After I saw the survey, I opted out.

DP: What kind of question is this? I cannot imagine that most kids take this seriously. I'm guessing that most kids just circle something to be done with it. Wonder how "hibachi restaurant" SB member would answer this.....which do you think she would pick? My guess is "almost always." But, does that mean she is sensitive to these issues? Hardly. For the 100th time, the SEL screener asks ZERO questions about anyone’s sexual orientation. NONE.

I have no idea what this “SEL program” is that teachers are trained on. It literally doesn’t exist. There are various curriculums that school counselors use in their monthly lessons, but that’s been happening since the dawn of time.

I am really concerned about your paranoia and inability to think critically. You’ve taken some article from a NY paper and somehow extrapolated it to apply to FCPS. But then again, you probably don’t even have kids or even live in Fairfax County.

My students do have difficulty with some of the questions. For example, 15. To what extent were you able to disagree with others without starting an argument? I know many of my students confidently answer “Not at all” because they don’t think they disagree with others, therefore there is no opportunity for an argument.
