F* you people trying to fat shame someone who is a perfectly normal weight for their height.

Your advice is deadly. Her body fat percentage is not healthy. OP absolutely needs to see a weight loss Dr and probably a therapist for her eating habits.

Dumbass.

I am 24% body fat (also had a DEXA scan). I am also 50 so this is a good proportion for me and within normal range.

OP you need to lift a lot heavier. I lift 200lb deadlifts and do 130lb squats. The cardio is ok as it is good for your heart but will not build muscle very easily.

How old are you? Adults start losing muscle at 30. Lift weights!

Yikes. She is setting her self up for difficulty as she gets older. Low muscle (sarcopenia) increase your risk for all sorts of bad things that can shorten your life. I don’t think muscle loss should be part of the body positivity movement. It’s dangerous and completely unhealthy.

At 4’11 and 123 she definitely looks pudgy but not obese. I’m 5’1 and when I weighed 120 in college it looked terrible. Op should probably get down to 105-110. Which sounds low but again she is 4’11.

I bet you anything that you have an eating disorder. 120 on a person who is 5.1 is most certainly not terrible.

It is if that person is 48% body fat, which is probably what I was back then too because I was eating like garbage and had no muscle because I didn’t work out. What is most important is OP’s fat percentage being that high and concentrated in her belly is very poor for her health but I promise you that weight without muscle also looks too heavy at her height, which is probably why she got the DEXA scan to begin with. People who aren’t this petite do not get it.

I think PP is saying she was too thin at 120. I'm not that poster, but I'm also 5 foot 1 and do indeed look terrible at the medium end of "healthy" for my height. I have a big bust and hips at any weight, which means "thin" looks gaunt on me. It's fine. It just means that when I do need to set a weight loss goal, it is at the higher end of "healthy" rather than the lower end of "healthy."

According to bmi charts, at my birth and weight my fat percent is 29. Using a scan it is closer to 40. Those machines are eye opening.

Pp here— not birth… height.

That's pretty awesome, especially if you have a sedentary job.

I'm OP but also had a DEXA scan. Curious if anyone could give a layman's definition between trunk, android, and gynoid.

Your BMI number is not the same as body fat percentage. A fat percent of 29 for a middle aged woman is good. A BMI if 29 is not.

No. I said I looked bad at 120 at 5’1 because when I was my body composition was probably similar to OP: little muscle and just softness. There is nowhere in a body size like hers for fat to hide. I have said over and over that it’s her health that is most important and negatively affected by this much body fat especially being carried in her abdomen, but I can tell you she looks heavier than you’d assume a person of 120 to be as well because of her height and body comp.

Petite women are used to ppl being shocked at how much they weigh. They all assume we weigh 100 lbs. That said, 5 pounds lost or gained on a petite women’s ideal weight is very noticeable. I am 5 feet tall and my goal weight is between 115 and 120. Below 115, my face looks gaunt. Above 120, running is no longer fun as I can feel the added weight slowing me down.

OP, definitely lift heavier. For perspective, I rarely use any weights under 15 lbs. Lift heavy enough weights that ur struggling at the last set. So aim for 3x10 or 12.

I’m afraid the barre workouts aren’t going to cut it. So replace those workouts with actual weight workouts. U can go back to them when you’ve gained more muscle.

Can someone list where you can get a Dexa scan?

Thanks!
