Relatives who always want to bring their dog!!!

Dander allergies can be incredibly serious. Which is why it’s so messed up to lie about them. When someone in my life has an allergy I take lots of care not to expose them. I’d be furious if I found out they were lying just because they would rather lie than have a slightly awkward conversation.

Anyone who uses a phrase like "just sucks" can't be older than 14.

Now, go finish your homework.

What are your allergy symptoms and do allergy meds help? Do you sleep in the pool house?

Do you have allergies?? Even when they aren’t life-threatening, they are awful and can impact confront/ quality of life. I sucked it up when visiting in-laws and would take as much allergy medicine as my dr allowed. But there is no way, I would voluntarily go through that in my own house.

People don't like *untrained" dogs. No jumping, no barking, please.

No drool. No bad breath. No peeing, pooping, or vomiting on my rugs, please. Do not even think of getting on my furniture.

This is why people don't like dogs.

People are such jerks about their dogs. If you love them, fine. But don't bring them everywhere and have them slobber in the grocery store where there are sanitary issues.

I have severe allergies to dogs and need to get shots and can spend all day sneezing and miserable if people have their dogs nearby. It's not enjoyable how much dogs are everywhere. If they are in your home or outside, fine. But they don't need to be indoors at all events.

You're such a jerk. I have a kid with a serious allergy to several animals. It causes asthma attacks. People die from them. You are an uneducated idiot.

PP didn’t say all allergies are fake. Just that OP’s are. Which they are, clearly.

NP. The OP can be allergic to dogs AND also not want the wear and tear a dog causes. Two things can be true at the same time. Make it three! Maybe OP just does't like dogs, as you all keep insisting. Stop calling OP a liar because YOU want to make OP the big bad villain here for not welcoming Fido like you demand she should.

I’m calling OP a liar because she told on herself. Stay mad.

Geez, OP is talking about one dog at her house. Which she can say "no" to.

OP CAN SAY NO.

I was going to disagree with you but then I re-read OP and it’s pretty clear you’re right. If it were sincerely allergies the cost/effort of building the pool house wouldn’t matter. Nor that a pet is “so much” to ask when visiting. But if the true concern were dislike:wear & tear from pets? Ah. Now it makes sense.

WTF. I re-read the OP too and it's pretty clear: She is allergic. The relatives did not ask to stay with them--they know she's allergic--until the pool house was built. The relatives think "it's only a pool house," so not The House and the dog will be fine there because... pool house. If OP also does not want the dog possibly tearing up the nice new poolhouse they saved up to build, thats an additional reason not to want the dog there, but that reason does not somehow cancel her allergy or make it into a lie. You dog nuts are reading into the OP what you want to see there: Evil Dog Hater.

OP CAN SAY NO.

Correct, all-caps screaming PP. I agree with you. She can and should say no. But you seem quite agitated about a post that was aimed not at OP but at the PPs who are so deeply invested in calling her a liar. That, not OP's ability to say no, was the point of the post.

Just have DH tell them no. Not at all unreasonable, with or without allergies

We HAVE a dog and I would never allow anyone to bring a dog overnight. We also have never brought our dog to stay at anyone’s home, and would never ask to or expect to. We board her, or occasionally stay at a hotel that allows dogs.

My kids are allergic to dogs/animals, too. That would be an easy NO for me. They have to stay in a hotel with their dog.

And people who think allergies don’t exist are a walking joke. Do you also believe the earth is flat and vaccines cause autism?
