That’s a question of families having to prioritize one activity over another. Not the end of the world. We have families on our team who do summer baseball and basketball so they have conflicts all season long. One family already told us they will miss every A meet because they prioritize that sport over summer swim. Our family happens to prioritize swim so will choose that over other weekend activities. No judgment. Next weekend my DC has to choose between a Boy Scout outing and the last soccer game. This happens for every family with multiple activities. Don’t blame it on summer swim. |
Oh and to be clear don’t care about “Zones” either. Parents with the year round swimmers really need to recognize it isn’t all about you and your kids. In most divisions, the A meet swimmers don’t need to be swimming year round or are doing it very lightly. |
You sound like a horse’s ass. |
I actually think that most of the ridiculousness about summer swim is driven by the non-year round parents. I have a club swimmer and yes my kid participates, but summer swim is pure fun for her. It’s the parents of kids who don’t swim the rest of the year that are overly invested in things like 8 and under relays, making All Stars, and who is 13 but swimming in the 11-12 group. |
I also agree. |
Just wait until 2026, when if the pattern holds, time trials will be on June 6th and the 4th A-meet will fall on the 4th of July. The horrors. |
Its important to note that the school calendars in Northern Virginia are part of the problem here. School is going later in June than it used to and starting earlier in August. This makes the window for summer swim even shorter.
I don't know what the answer is, but there are several factors involved in the schedule. |
Better 4 July than 5 July when everyone is exhausted from staying up late! |
“NVSL Crazy”. If you haven’t been called this at least once in your life, then you’re doing it wrong. Sincerely, An NVSL Crazy Swim Mom Who Does Not Care When All Stars Are …Because I’ve had over an entire year to schedule everything else around them. See you on July 12 my people. |
I actually give you credit for owning it instead of trying to hide it or convince people you’re not crazy. |

Lol. The level of defensiveness of parents whose kids don’t swim year round /contempt for year round swimmers is crazy. Agree with a PP, that is where the craziness is but keep blaming the year round swimmers for it! Sigh. |
People are responding to an obnoxious and crazy poster babbling about long course competitions conflicting with all stars. Try to keep up. |
There were 2 posts mentioning that having all stars the first weekend of August would conflict with a champs club swim meet. That isn’t babbling or crazy, that’s just stating a fact, but sure the non-year round parents aren’t defensive at all. |
The answer is to cut the number of holidays during the school year. It is ridiculous. |
