America is far from free. Why do we accept living under perpetual fear of endless gun violence?

At some point this became the idea that unregulated, unfettered access to guns of all types is a Constitutional right. A significant portion of our population really believes that's what the 2E says.
We the people won't be free of gun violence until we can overcome the ignorance, the intentional misunderstandings, the crazy conspiracy ideas that so many believe in. And that won't happen without a well-educated public, which in itself can't happen without Republican buy-in to strong public schools. For now, our best bet is to use our VOTE.

Stop being silly. That is not what the Second Amendment says at all. The one who misread it is Scalia. His limitations are improper and will be changed. Yes the Second Amendment does allow guns for everyone. If you want to change that -- try.

if you live in fear of shootings and DON'T live in an area with gang violence, what you really need is anti-anxiety medication, or a course in statistics

It’s the price paid not to be exterminated in gas chambers by Nazis or Communists.

I don't live in an area with gang violence. In fact, I live in the suburbs of a larger metro area. My family has been one degree of separation from gun violence three times in the last nine years. My son was scheduled to be at a community center an hour after a boy and his grandfather were shot and killed; my son got a frantic text telling him not to come. My daughter's sorority sister was shot and killed by a stray bullet at a popular community event. And my friend's daughter was on lockdown in her suburban high school after a kid brought a gun to school and an administrator and security guard were shot. If you live in this country and aren't afraid of shootings you're not paying attention.

+100

It’s so frustrating to hear people say well if you live in an upper class suburb you will never get affected. These are not gang related shootings being carried out in Harlem. These are random shootings where one crazy person has access to an AR -15 and starts shooting randomly. None of us are safe. Tyson’s corner itself has been under heavy security because of the recent escalation in threats there.

That’s right. And we thank the little children whose faces get blown off and bodies get pulverized for sacrificing themselves so that we are free to buy as many AR-15s as we want, as God intends it to be. Thoughts and prayers. Amen.

Yes dead 5 and 6 year olds are just collateral damage, why can’t people understand it’a better that they die rather than having our society subjected to the horrors of gun control?

His name could be Mickey Mouse for all I care. His name is not the issue. It’s the fact that guns are so easily accessible in this country. Stop trying to change the subject.

Do I have to file a form 4473 and undergo a background check to buy an SUV? A knife? A crack pipe?

Yes, to buy an SUV you do need to do a background check - a credit check. And you have to have insurance. And you have to register the car with the state you live in. And if you sell the car you have to do the legal paperwork so that the state is notified. And you have to have a driver's license that you took a class and then test to get and that needs to be renewed every so often, including with an eye exam. And if you have any relevant disabilities they are noted on your license or that you need to wear glasses, for example.

That would be great to subject gun ownership to the same level of scrutiny. All for it. Thanks for suggesting it.

pfft. I don't know what you're talking about. You don't need any of those things.

I can drive witbout a license or insurance. No credit check - pay cash. It's done all the damn time.

White males are the ones committing these mass shootings.

What a racist statement.

Proving yet again, nobody does it quite like a democrat.

But I think we can all agree it’s almost always males doing the killing. What sickness has taken hold of American men?

This country was founded on gun violence. How do you think the land was taken away from the millions of Native Americans already living here?

And who did the Native Americans take it away from?

Go to Australia or Canada. Both are taking large numbers of immigrants.

I don't live in fear. I understand statistics.

America used to care, during the Reagan administration.

Now republicans are mostly gun nuts who worship at the feet of AR-15 manufacturers.

It's sickening.
