What makes you think they are still in potential talks or just a guess? |

Now I got this line from Tutor Me (tutor here):
Despite the possibility of MCPS tutoring wrapping up at the end of May.... So are they negotiating... - I thought it was definitely wrapping up... |
MCPS is currently evaluating the tutoring program - no final decision yet. Consider sending a letter to stakeholders (and also post here!) and explain how tutoring (FEV Tutor, Tutor Me Education, or MCPS online/in-person tutoring) helped (or didn't help) your child (ES, MS, or HS, with/without IEP) and why it should/shouldn't continue. This is helpful. My husband has been having anxiety attacks at work and trying to plan for the summer. The kids will be devastated to lose their tutor and the progress they have made has been remarkable. |
| We are praying for the services to continue. My child has autism, the services have really helped with her social development as well. The tutor has geared the lessons to include social & emotional learning. If MCPS does drop Tutor Me, I really hope the SPED department can step it up. They have offered little to no support for us. Our Sped tutor was our saving grace. |
I connected with a director from the company and that was the information that was passed along. On another note, teachers at our schools have confirmed students in the Tutor Me Education program making large strides in working with their tutors as compared to those who have not sought out the support. Looks like the data is really there and the program is making a big impact. Nice to see others having a similar experience. I wonder if they will submit that data to the district. |
I would say that Tutor Me Education/MCPS should use a different assessment in order to track the data in a better way. I am kicking myself for not doing a quick DIBELs assessment when I started because I feel the growth has been great. The assessment given was very long and really did not give me much actionable data to use in my tutoring. |
| I sent a long email how important this free tutoring service is important to my daughter and family a few days ago. And I received a replay from MCPS Team Lead thanking for my email. So please do email! |
| We LOVE Tutor Me Education. Great experience for the few months we have had with our tutor. The materials have been helpful. We are limited on private funds but will pay out of pocket if it gets to that point. |
| Very sad. I have about twenty hours of classes a week and half of those with children from families without resources to hire tutors |

I stumbled upon Tutor Me Education when I was looking for a math tutor for my daughter. (I remembered seeing something about it in an email from the school.) My other two kids are in private school, and I've been paying $75 per hour for their tutoring, off an on over the years.
I was surprised to see that MCPS offered free tutoring services. I signed up my daughter. It has been great for the past few months for my daughter. Earlier this week, our middle school (Westland MS in Bethesda) had a town hall with the B-CC High School principal. He responded to a parent question about the end of free tutoring. He said that the funding was pandemic-related, and also said that the people using the tutoring were often not the people for whom the tutoring was intended. (To my knowledge, MCPS did not put any restrictions on who could use the tutoring.) If there is some money in the budget, perhaps MCPS could make the free tutoring available going forward, but only for people who meet certain income requirements, or with serious academic needs (not just for those kids for whom it's a "nice to have."). |
It was intended for any child whose parents think they need it. All kids can use extra support. |
| I highly doubt this was the intention of the program nor is it a good use of tax payer money to give tutors to kids just for individualized attention. They should be limited to low income and based on academic need. |
There are so many things that could be cut and missed. Why cut something that is benefiting students who use it. |

Our school just announced tutoring will
Continue to the end of the year. |
