I feel like this is the next Big Tobacco case - we instinctively knew for a long time it was unhealthy, but we truly did not understand the full effects and in fact we were lied to by the purveyors.

+1000 and I don’t understand why people (especially liberals) aren’t seeing this. They think banning TikTok is some right-wing initiative to make people dumb. HELLO. TikTok is what is making people dumb (on the left and right and center and wherever). It needs to be gone, or there need to be strict limits on it like on cigarettes.

I think you and I see this in completely different ways. You do realize Blinken started it, right?

China sent the Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The Chinese, culturally, would expect to be treated respectfully as guests. Blinken's opening statements lit the fuse, so there was pretty much zero chance of success.

The Chinese response was classic. "The US does not speak to China from a position of strength." In other words, it's a way of saying, 'yeah, you should be thankful we're even talking to you."

This would be a typical response you'd expect from a Chinese minister treated as a demi-god in his own country. He would look down on Blinken as pedestrian and unequal to his status, so Blinken insulting him in his first speech sabotaged any meaningful progress that could have been made.

Since Thursday hearing just 5 people called his office telling him not to banned TikTok, you think everyone will be calling.... I was 2 of those calls. Used my brothers name in one of them.

Prediction: the US won’t ban Tik Tok.

Rather, they will pressure China to sell it to the US for US control/regulation of the platform.

They are too busy going on Tik Tok and saying not to ban Tik Tok.
